Football Manager 2008 – perhaps

25 01 2007

We’ve only been playing ohseven for a few months, but people are already looking forward to the next installment of the game. So where can Football Manager 2008 enhance the series? What can SIGames bring to the game to ensure we don’t self-combust with disapointment?

Improved International Management

Every single year people cry out for this, but I think SIGames are struggling to see how they can improve this feature. To a degree I can see why, but there are areas that can be improved. Take a look at this article to see some suggestions, including a few of my own.

In game team talks

We’ve had pre, half time and post match team talks: so what about in-game team talks? We’ve all seen managers shouting orders from the touchline, but we are ristricted to altering the style and formation of the team. How about a few more personal comments during the match? A quick press of the tactics button, and you could choose to give Lampard praise for his goal, or warn Traore to get more focussed after a bad tackle. Player instructions could also be combined with these, so rather than selecting a player’s mentality, you could tell him what to do.

Perhaps the following options could be made available:-

Instruction for Steven Gerrard:-
    – Keep it up!
    – Push forward!
    – Pull back
    – Show your displeasure in his performance
    – Tell him he needs to improve
    – Warn him to cool down
    – Etc etc

Two leg competition problem fixed

You might not have noticed it, or, like me, you scream whenever this happens. After winning the first leg of that all important game, you go into the second leg on a high. Yet by half time, you are losing, and find yourself just one goal ahead on aggregate when you really should be way out in the lead. So what can you say to the players at half time? Get your arse in gear, lads? Nope – you can say something along the lines of ‘Great performance!’. You see, the game thinks that you are winning 2-1, which you are on aggregate, but on the day you are behind. I like to win every game – who doesn’t – yet I’m giving the impression that a 1-0 deficit is great!

Fantasy Mode

Most of the big improvements have been made now, let’s be honest. We have match team talks, 2d engines, scouting systems, affliations and more. So how about a few fun improvements? Perhaps when loading a new game you can select from a choice of missions or fantasy leagues, pre-made by SIGames and already available to play from launch? Imagine a 1989 league, with the correct teams and players? Perhaps the choice to create your own dream leagues from the game itself, without having to mess about moving teams in the editor? Simply choosing twenty teams, and playing the league. Something similar to this has been included on the XBox 360 version’s multiplayer mode, and this would be a great addition too for multiplaying and single games on the PC too.

Improved Media Interaction

Every year this aspect of the game improves and expands, but many feel that the current system of interaction just isn’t enough. I played a game with a Championship side, and before every single match I was asked by the media for my thought before kick off. Every single time I was limited to the same five comments, and nearly always gave the same response (something along the lines of, ‘Team X are good, but if we play well we can beat them.’. How about much more choices of quotes? Big game build up? I’ve had times when I’ve been a big Premiership side taking on a non-league club in the F.A Cup, yet while the game would have been covered to death in real life, again only one question is asked of me before kick off.

Improved Transfer Window

This could be part of the above suggestion, but I do feel it warrants a paragraph of its own. We are now into the late end of January and every few days we have seen some quite large transfers, many rumours, and nervous biting of fingers from those clubs desperate to hang on to their talent. Yet come January in Football Manager world, all we tend to receive are the run of the mill transfer rumours, and a cursory round up (i.e two clubs mentioned) at the end of the month.

Hows about developing this further? Imagine it’s December 31st, you’ve just lost your tenth game in a row, and this message appears:-

With the January transfer window about to open, you have been asked by a newspaper to comment on whether the club will be signing anyone.

Response:
   – We have a few deals already lined up
   – I’m looking into signing some new players
   – We could do with some new players, but we have no-one in particular
   – We don’t need to strengthen
   – We have no money to sign players

Each response could generate different effects: telling people you have some deals lined up yet not signing anyone could lead to the fans feeling angry and no longer trusting you; saying you don’t need to strengthen could make your current players happier but if you’re struggling, the fans may expect some fresh faces; saying you’ve no money could be an alternative way of asking the board to release some January funds.

More general rumour reports from the press would also be welcomed. Something along the lines of:

January 3rd: Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is believed to be interested in signing Manchester United’s Wes Brown. Chelsea’s defence has been poor this season, conceding 31 goals in 15 games, and it is believed that Mourinho sees Brown as the ideal signing.
January 4th: Manchester United’s Wes Brown has urged Chelsea to make a bid for him after he turned down a new contract offered by United.
January 5th: Liverpool have entered the race to sign Manchester United’s Wes Brown, etc, etc
January 30th: Chelsea’s attempts to sign Wes Brown could fail, according to sources at the club. With only two days until the transfer window closes, Chelsea are believed to be frustrated with the way talks between the club and Brown’s agent are going.

Such an inclusion would certainly add more spice to the game and a little more interest in the big signings too, in my opinion.

Portable Link Up

I’m not the most technically minded person, so how this would work I have only a basic idea, but one thing that I’m sure many gamers who own both the PC and PSP versions of Football Manager would adore would be a link up. Imagine playing your current game on the PC, then saving the file and being able to send it to the PSP to continue playing on the train, bus or anywhere you want? Limitations with both systems probably mean this won’t see the light of day (not for a while, at least) but if I owned a PSP then this feature would make me want to buy FM Handheld even more.

As you can see, none of these suggestions are hardly genre-breaking. The major features have all been added now and while a few individuals will always champion a 3D match engine, I, like many others, are of the firm believe that SIGames should not tamper too much with the graphical aspects of the game. A number of other management releases offer 3D engines, pretty graphics and sliding bits and bobs – but look at their enduring popularity compared to Football Manager. So while SIGames could bring in a number of ideas, I think it’s fair to say that we’re all hoping they don’t change it too much! Which, let’s be honest, they won’t.

The Player Instructions idea is fab really, suggest this to SI.

Brilliant ideas you have there Mr Editor. I really do want more improved media/transfer rumours etc. as I feel this is one of the more fun parts of the game.

how about decidinng what kit you wear for games
also changing the kits after every season

make contract negotions better eg. player on £70 p/w and u offer him a contract at £10,000 a week n bounus and he rejects i dont think so.

after a few seasons you could take over a team if you wanted to and try to make profit sign managers and decide what merchandise to sell

International management desperately needs to be improved to be more like club level (without the obvious tranfer market). How about even having the international manager being able to comment on clubs. For example, Walter Smith at Scotland would encourage the Old Firm to succeed in Europe to boost Scotlan’d rankings.

C More player pictures better trainning .. more help from assistant manager .. more team talk.

Marley (Not Bob!)

I would like to see more interaction with team players, and the media, declaring a player as in good form, praising the team, whenever it’s needed.

Another thing is the useless players in a team, I’m Tottenham and have brought in some great players, nani, saviola, richards, bale…and I need to get rid of the dead wood, gardner, stalteri, murphy, etc. etc, davenport the list goes on, but nobody buys them, It’s as if I have to play them for a number of games, and they generate interest from another clubs.

truth is, if there is always a team williing to purchase an unused player, no longer needed at a priemership side…, this would make a big difference.

wat about starting off as an assitant manager. and working up 2 being the manager of the club

12 04 2007

how about small video clips of when you sign a new big player, more ways to create funds and fans, more in depth training e.g. make up your own drills, some players could go out to night clubs and miss training etc, you should be able to see a 3d picture of the stadiums and plan their expansions or re-builds, you should be able to pick sponsors, talk to potential investors and board members, more specific talks during games to player if they make a mistake or miss a penalty, there should be 3d images of the cups and perhaps corupt transfers that can get you in trouble with the league and deducted points. I think there suggestions would make the game much more enjoyerble and realistic.

12 04 2007
luke

also i think you could maybe interact skysports video clips for transfers instead of see transfers at the bottom of the page. you should be able to try and persuade mixed nation players to play for your nation e.g. higuain(real madrid)-france/argentina. theres should definitely be players for the biggest leagues. i think the japanese league should be included and you should be able to try and persuade people like shearer to become a manager even though hes retired. there should be images of newspaper and other media gossip liek on fifa, perhaps if you succeed then you should collect rare points which you can use to make players better e.g. youth.

12 04 2007
Chris

How about as well as with during match comments to the players and the two leg problem, how about being able to tell the players at the end of a game that the first half was great but the second half rubbish and vica versa. There have been plenty of times where ive wanted to say this to my players but its not been available

Also, maybe have the press asking you about the way you have spoken to your players, i.e. was the ‘hair dryer treatment’ you gave your players really nessesary? etc

But all the above comments as well as the article would all be welcome additions to an already brilliant game!

I am from malta and i will like to be able to choose a maltese club and be a manager of a maltese club for example Hamrun. i do wish to make it come true because maltese football is improving. thank you mr.editor. and hope to do so.

they really need to do get pictures for the lower league players its really annoying how they just give pictures to the players in the upper leagues and big name players. they also need to sort out some international squads ive noticed they dont always have the proper players or even the players dont have the right amount of caps. Player growth could also be improved most player dont grow very well unless they are sold to big clubs for example Bryan Deasley didnt improve when i kept him at Dundee FC but as an experiment i boght for barcelona and by the time he was 24 he was valued at something like £15M its unreal

15 04 2007
MATT

I think that there should be more in depth comments which u can say 2 ur players in matches and to the press.
Also there should be better player interaction

16 04 2007
Dylan

also i think that after players retire they should stay in the game for a couple of months without a club and might be able to be persuaded into a guest stint at a club or if they haven’t decided to be a manager/coach etc be persuaded to become one… also i think a great addition to the game would be managers (you) being able to make youth centres and institutes (like the david beckham one) and instead of asking the board to improve you should have a building budget and can have like a 2D building plan were you can drag and drop centres and facilities on to improve your grounds

16 04 2007
stephen wilson

what about instead of reading what is what is going on in the match have commentery

16 04 2007

i would like 2 c a change in the kit. I think there should be a list of sponsers you can choose from and a list of kit manafactureres. Also i think the style of the matches should improve. For example , commentary , fans chanting thier clubs actual anthems, players and coaching staff shouting intructions. Also there should be improved manager interaction

16 04 2007
Mike Edwards

i think you should be able o buy clubs. If u are Man Utd and get alo of money u should be able to bid for little teams like Gillingham, Forest Green Rovers, Rushden & Diamonds etc and get them to win trophies and ten maybe put tem up or sale. Also i think that you sould be able to pick a famous sponser thatsuites your club e.g. Arsenal have fly Emirites for the 1st season and the get an offer from vodafone, Carlsburg, Flybe and Sony for the next season sthat you can pick what sort of sponser you would like.
Mike

I think the sponsorship idea is a good idea but they wouldnt be allowed to use names such as sony or carlsberg because they would have to pay the companies the rights to use their logos – unless of course they sponsored fm which of course would create more money for them – as for the assistant manager idea i thought the name of the the game was football MANAGER no assistant manager – FM is realistic but if you had the option to build the stadium it wouldnt be because managers in real life do not have this priveledge – alot of the suggestions are good in hindsight but would not represent the true nature of real management cheers

17 04 2007
Alex Kirkhouse

Brilliant post and ideas…the media section of the game i feel can be drastically improved…even commenting on another manager you don’t really have a good variety of comments that are realistic. On FM2005…there was a downloadable media editor which worked fantastic for me as i created around 50 media comments and responses to improve this a little…however…no such thing has been released for FM2007…more in-depth media comments are needed.

Also, when you are interviewed before a match…u are never asked just one question…maybe FM2008 could contain a more realistic approach to this with a series of questions on the upcoming match being asked…?

17 04 2007
Ashley

they is so much they can do to fm07 for example instead of the basic homepage u get to change to like a laptop.
There is one thing that every one has missed that is calling a press cofience if one of ur star players is being sold u can say like this for henry;
There has been loads of gossip that he has sign a contract with barcelona
YOU COULD SAY:
i have no reason to believe that!
Well he has not told me
he has not sign a contract with barcelona

And u can agrue with the ref bout a decision get sent to the stands
Choose on where u seat in the match (next to teh chairman or on the bench)

17 04 2007
Ashley

Wat about the people that u never see at the club the grounds men y cant u talk to the grounds man and ask for a tpye of pitch like arsenal would like the ball to run fast and stuff like that

u could talk to ur captain and vice if they think they is any think wrong with the way the team is playin

a how to solve the training. Ok u only get a couple of options to choose from when u are setting up a new training scheule u dont get to choose for the def midfielders and the side backs and the wingers

About the being a assaint manager would be a bit stupid as then it would take the point of the game away

19 04 2007
Patrick

I definetely think that the true greats should be in the game to interact with. For example im a newcastle fan, and although shearer is retired and not sure if he’ll ever become a manger, i think you should be able to bring him back in.

19 04 2007
James

I am a huge fan of lower league management. I got started in CM 03/04 and managed Forest Green. I would like to see FM 2008 go even lower than the Conference North and South. Include the Ryman league, Northern Premier, even lower. I would love to have a shot managing Abingdon or AFC Wimbledon and their like. It would be neat if you had 10 leagues or so to choose from in England

20 04 2007
darren

i think they should let you be a manger fot under 18 for clubs / england under 19 or under 21 for countrys

21 04 2007
Biskitz

all of these are really good ideas, the assistant manager idea is ok but then again i can see where your coming from, its football manager. i like other would also liek to be able to buy clubs, as in 2007 you get to negotiate contratcs and get paid more or less, but you cant do anythign with this money, perhaps being ale to invest in the club i.e trainning facillites or if your weston-s-mare(confernce south) be able to buy equipment.buying a club would be cool but mayb again it walks away form the “manager” idea. but i would still welcome somthing like this. the sponser idea is really good too, you dont have to have brands like carling or nothing, you could do what LMA does and make up sponsers, some may say it takes the realisum out but i enjoyed the LMA’s. we should show si games this site so they get ideas.:D

make the game more realistic as watford will not get into europe in the first season

22 04 2007

you could take the player you want to sign on a tour of the stadium and training facillites and stuff like that and you are able to talk to the board better

22 04 2007
Eric 4 Toes

i think you should be able to build up your stadiums and facilities more. for example you should be able to improve your toilets, flood lights, refreshment shops, under soil heating, car parking ect. i also think you should be able to choose the price off you tickets, season tickets and progams.

another good asset would be to choose the type of manager personality you want to be. for example calm like harry redknapp or furious like neil warnock.

22 04 2007
Adam Borst

how about getting a REAL pay roll and can check your savings, and get bonuses for managers, so when you decide to retire after 5 years and be a super millionaire, you can try to own a club? lol just an idea 😉

23 04 2007
smarts kid

i fink dat a manger u could retire and head of a owner of a club

23 04 2007
Ashley

i think that they are some lements in cm lma and total club manager that they could put in this game

25 04 2007
Chris

I would like to see players who are out of the first team (for example your back up goalkeeper) understanding why he is not getting into the first team due to the form of the first choice keeper.
Could say things such as “Jerzy Dudek is wanting first team football but knows that whilst Reina is in such good form that it is unlikely”.

This would work for any position and gives a reason why managers aren’t rotating their squads becuase they cannot afford to due to form

25 04 2007

SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE WITH THE WORK PERMIT SITUATION, I WAS REFUSED A PERMIT SEVERAL TIMES FOR A PLAYER TO COME TO MY PREM CLUB BUT HE WAS SIGNED BY CHELSEA IN THE VERY SAME TRANSFER WINDOW ???

ALSO I BID SILLY MONEY 27M FOR A PLAYER WORTH 11M, MY BID WAS REFUSED OVER AND OVER, ON THE SAME WINDOW HE WAS SOLD TO ARSENAL FOR 17M ??

28 04 2007

what about testimonial matches for your retiring club legends? i would like to see that feature included.

28 04 2007

better options on defending and attacking on set pieces

28 04 2007
marc

I think they should bring more records into it like, a striker going on a goal run. and or a goalkeeper getting a run of clean sheets also if a player has played in consecutive matches.

i also think it would be good to decide what kit the team plays in for that year and be able to create money from it and you could then have the media complain about the ever changing kits.

i think that some of the darker side of the football world should be brought in like Ronaldo’s diving and 20 man brawls and the FA could step in with heated arguments. also managers should be able to go to a war of words and all hell break loose and even players get involved.

just an idea be boy would it be fun I THINK SO!!!!!!!!!!

29 04 2007

what about the option of been chairman. jst a thought but i know the name football manager would not work lol.(also newcastle are nt that much in debt cause we have rich chairman)

it would be awesome if our manager could go and play golf with other players and fellow staff, like buy golf equipment, and have a handicap 🙂

i think it woyld be gr8 aswell if when you created youre new stadium, if you could select where most of the chanting goes on, and name the new stands, like in the Kop, most of the chanting is there, so it would be cool if you could select that

1 05 2007
Chris Turner

It would be better if the FA would be more involved into the game, such as teams getting point deductions or fines etc if they field a unregistered player. Or a player to get banned for others reasons then for cautions etc failing a drugs test.
Also i think players should interaxt with the manager more, giving their opinions, if they think a player is underperforming or deserves a praise. Or even apoligising for a bad performance or red card ect…

Finally make it more exiting when your team wins a trophy maybe show the players collecting their medals and the captain lifting the trophy and the crowd chanting the team. with commentry inteveiwing the players and you (the manager)

1 05 2007
Ashley

How bout changing the tactics so that u can have more places to put player and the set pieces like seeing it like the normal tactics but only get to see the penalty area

wat bout typing the comments

able to praise a player

better scout reports

board get uphappy about something u have said

able to see the players train

able to teach the players to play as a team

set the defence, midfield, attack trainig schedule

better training facitilites

when the transfer window’s opens u get told u can only buy a type of player ie striker

1 05 2007
Mushy

i think it will b a good idea to choose from a list of jobs when beginning a new career. For example, pick from assistant manager, club owner, scout etc.

2 05 2007
Imtiaz Wookay

Fab suggestions! I would really like to see a ‘Trophy Cabinet’ in the next version – it would be a fun feature! Also, I feel that there needs to be a more distinct way of announcing/celebrating when a team wins a trophy – perhaps by showing a newspaper with headlines about the win…..the current way is sooo boring and stale now! It will also be great if we could see pics of stadiums….

Also, when you take over management of a team (which is the essence of the game), one should be allowed to pick or state your approach upfront e.g. in terms of approach to diet, fitness regimes, use of specialists, requesting the board to buy certain equipment for performance monitoring and enhancement etc. In other words, there should be options to differentiate one managers approach from another….I mean, Wengers management approach is different and more scientific compared to that of Curbishley etc…How do we bring that into the game?

Also…i feel the training module can be more realistic….by Assistant coaches giving a more detailed report for training sessions including the speeds of players in sprints, endurance results etc….

It would be great if there were specific crowd chants for particular players – taken from real club chants…

3 05 2007
Mitchy

Hey Guys, I think all the comments would make the game so much more fun and more appealing. I doubt they would bring in the Assistant and Owners position because as discussed it takes the whole “Manager” aspect out of proportion. What I would love to see is more comments pre, during, half time and post games because it does get a bit tedious when selecting the same option over and over again. You reckon it would be a good idea if we could get in contact with other managers, like an enquiry but directly to the oppositions manager?

I think 3D stadiums and trophies and even clips of winning trophies would be a quality way of bringing the game forward

Club fines, point deductions, drug tests, better and larger stadia expantion.
regnerate better players with stats that match there valuation. use manager wages for anything naming new stands or stadia, prem players and club pics!!!!!!!!!!

I think poeple have pretty much covered most things. I would like to see players ‘personality’s’ brought out more. Like maybe a trouble maker could be seen stumbling out of a club at 3am, getting in a fight. You have to decide his punishment. Or a decision to sell the club clown will upset the team moral.i duno just an idea!

im in my 16th season with arsenal and i have a stadium of 98000, and it sells out ever game! but the boared wont expand it by more then 1600 a year!!!
i have plenty f money and surely if it was a real club there be moving me in to bigger stadiums, but no!!! and another thing i dont like is that i pay 38 million in divedens per year!!! not cool James

Boro fan for life!

First team players sometimes are in reserves, although this is only a small thing it can still be annoying having to move them into the first team. Also it takes to long to train a player into another position.

6 05 2007

you should be able to
1) set ticket prices, attract more fans, less fans etc

2) manager U21 ONLY not senior team aswell for instance work your way up or manage a club team with england u21.

3) more views on the 2d match

I think that maybe an idea for the manager to have a say in the new sponsers. it was in the old old manager games but kind of faded out and as posted further up i think the interaction is a really good feature but it need more options as it is very limited and if you use the same comments all the time it stops having an effect on your team so in affect to that we need more things to say to our players and i think in game team talks would be a good idea which was mentioned further up.
but all in all FM is amazing i think leaves CM way in the past.

How about having classic situations for example. E.G. take the place of Ferguson when United overturned the pints deficit to Newcastle etc. Design aspects of the stadium would be good fun- LMA Manager had that option which i think worked pretty well. Criticise the performance of the referee would be another good option.

7 05 2007
matt

iv just been playing FM07 and i think that if u cant do anything with the 2d match play then maybe make the commentry abit more indepth like when a team score give more detail on how they score ect. because all’s it does at the momment is comment on who fault it was and not actually how it was score for example say maybe ‘rooney score with a blisteing header powering through the defence’ at the momment it comes up with ‘ferdinand will be to blame for that with the poor clearence’ which is good but need abit more about the goal and build up ect.

8 05 2007
bergkamp

I’m sure this has been covered but I’d like to see an option where you can start as a potential owner.
You have, say, £100m and you approach clubs about buying them out. Some clubs won’t stand for it while I’m sure some would jump at the chance.
What does anyone else think? I’ve read some great suggestions, maybe this one could be included with another?

8 05 2007
Ashley

ok some people would like to become a chairman ok how bout u have to be a manager/coach but yea it takes the WHOLE thing of football manager away but i would like to work my way up starting out as a coach and progessing to become a manager to conquer the people who want to become chairman how about u inclued the lifestyle thing from fifa manager 2007.

9 05 2007
boki

yeh all these ideas are awsome but i feel that the power to choose which sponsers you want, idea of making or expanding your own stadium (3d engine were you can choose from a couple of options how you want the stadium to look ect or where an expansion could be possible), better team/player/media/club interaction and making or choosing your own kit for the season are the main points which should be covered. Choosing how many seats you want, were all the chanting happens would be awsome. ONE THING WHICH MUST BE FIXED IS THE WORK PERMITS AND THE TRANSFER MARKET. for eg. You bid for a player who is really cheap but like the nxt ronaldhino and he accepts your contract offer but cant get a workpermit. 2 weeks later you read that Chelsea have snapped him up and he’ll be making his debut against your team. RUbbish. They should make an equall playing field for all teams when it comes to work permits.

9 05 2007
Brian VanLaystren

Some Good Ideas, Especially keen on the in match player instructions.

One feature that has always interested me but never been incorporated is the option to load 2 seperate saved game squads on the 1 computer to play against each other in a 1 off exhibition/friendly. This way you can really see who has the better team between you and your mates.

Also, deciding on kit design for the new season and having a better input into sponsorship deals, maybe choosing from 3 or 4 proposals for the bigger clubs. Also features to set ticket prices and number of season tickets on offer. Have seen this on other games and a good idea i think.

Also, bring back the blame ref button!!!!

Most of all, avoid making it too detailed so that it takes 6 months solid play to complete a season properly.

9 05 2007

I’d mainly just like to see the game made more realistic, like England dominating the World cups and European championships isn’t realistic.

I’m not mad into the idea of being involved in designing youth faculities and merchadising as that seems to be moving away from pure football management and more into other game genre’s, also why would you want to start the game as an Assistant or a scout, surely that would severly limit your playing options

I would be a little concerned if SI started throwing in a load of videos, the game pretty damn big as is, video files could only make the game bigger and not necessarily better. The idea for 3D matchplay would also fall into this category, but i do feel that some of the charm of FM is in the 2D games. It also allows you to look solely at players movement without getting caught up in pretty graphics.

I think that more club logos and player pics should be added, also make the logos changable in editor. i think that kit options in editor should be brought back (Portsmouth AFC just ain’t the same in green, eh Bry)

There is also a need for greater contol over feeder teams (what country) and your relationship with them, you are currently left at the whim of your board. It could be possible to approach clubs with deals (similar button to ‘Pick For Friendly’) as with transfers and as long as the board OK’s the deal it goes through.

Greater control over sponsorship deals (how long, how much, etc.) and ticket pricing. You could control ticket prices in Gremlin’s Premier Manager 1998, so I think SI could stretch to that.

More improvements of youngsters. It seems that youngsters do not mature as well as in real life. I think that greater control over their training (FM 2005 style = proper training schedules) could be an option for those who want it. A simple option for training scheduling in the Preferences section is all it takes.

I think that the idea of starting as a Chairman or coach negates the idea of Football MANAGER. It generally takes a long time to progress as a coach and into management with a hefty spell as an assistant. During his period you will have very little control over the team, with the little control you do have (designing training sessions etc) being too technical for the average gamer. Chairmen again, can hire and fire managers, have contol over finances etc. but the running of the squad is all down to the manager.

I do like Ferg’s idea of only being able to manage upto U21’s at international whilst still at a club (a la Pearce).

One final point, getting rid of players! I know its already been covered but it is a bugbear of mine. At both Chelsea and Dinamo Kiev I have tried to sell my unwanted players but have found it extremely difficult. The best way i have found is to cut the start price to zero and make the club pay a knockdown price in installments, this is simply not realistic enough.

i think it would be good…..yet difficult….if kits changed lk evry 2 yrs. its ridiculous if u r playin in the same kit 4 5yrs. other manager games have made up/real company names which can be selected as a sponser…….an idea 4 fm……u cud negotiate a contract with sponsers……bigger players could also encourage bigger sums of cash for ure club!
possibly a long shot….but would be interesting 🙂

I think much more is needed to do with the management of the club – ie sponsorship and revenue. FM should include in its database a whole load of companies and potential tycoons looking to take over clubs. Just look in the press and you’ll see rumours left right and centre. If for instance the ex-Thai Prime Minister took over Man City he could bring funds and stability – but what would happen if there was a bidding war? What happens if a consortium of fans out bid him. How would this affect player morale. David Dein’s recent parting ways with Arsenal has certainly left questions over Wenger and his players following him – shouldn’t FM have this sort of loyalty built in to players serving a long time under YOUR management? Henry moving to Valencia if Wenger went there? Who says it’s not possible?!

this again is good, but people keep saying that they want more club logos, its not that SI are too lazy to put them in there, its copy rights. so id perfer to stick to downloading face packs and club logos. also with the kit idea of being able to change it i think it woudl be a great idea, although i think it would be hard again becuase of copy right, and to be honest when i first start as a club i.e manchester united id perfer my first sponser to be AIG AND THE KIT TO BE THE SAME,this just brings a bit more realisuim into it.but i woudl liek to see a reason for getting paid 80 grand a week.

12 05 2007

you should be able to have a bigger affect on clubs finances….e.g. determining shirt prices, prices of tickets, etc etc. and also sometimes you have to pay stupid amounts for players which in real life could be about 4 times cheaper….on FM 2007 i had to pay 85 million for fabregas a few seasons in!!!!

i was just watching match of the day and had a thought if you are in west ham. wigan or shef united place you should be able to offer your player some kind of bonus like if u win you all get 100k each or something so they will play harder to saty up ect. i def think that ticket prices and stadium feat should be improved upon. i agree with the buying of players you do somethims have to pay so much money for players. i think abit more contract detail could be useful as well. like they do some player e.g lee bowyer when he went back to west ham before they went back down they offered him 250k bonus if they stay up. things like that i think would be good just something to try and save your team from relegation. i think shirts should be left as they are but it is abit weird a team playing in the same shirt for 25years that has to effect the shirt sales lol. i think maybe bring new shirts out or something but keep it simple nothing to fancy because its really about managing your team. i think improving transfers, scouting, player signing and things like that need to be looked at before most things because thats what managing is about i think. but to be honest there are some really good ideas on here but how do we know SI are even reading them???

i want to see a projected injury status when a player gets injured during a match. i was annoyed when they took this out a few games ago and they never put it back. for example say henry gets injured in a game you should be able to click on him and see what is probably wrong, with the physio’s physiotherapy rating depending on how correct the diagnosis is. also with the green injury status you should be able to do this to a certain extent (suspected pulled hamstring, concussion, gashed leg etc) so that you know how desperately you need to take him off because it ticks me off how sometimes you can take a player off and he’s fine and nothings wrong with him and then sometimes you leave them on and they’ve in fact torn cruciate ligaments or something stupid.

i think press conferences would be awesome. just loads of questions coming at you quickly (perhaps with a time limit on them, to enhance pressure etc like in real press conferences where you can’t spend a few minutes deciding on an answer) with proper answers and not the boring formulaic ones you get every time the media speak to you.

i watched something on match of the day the other week where they followed neil warnock round after a game to see what he did. after he had spoken to his team he saw the ref, then national media, then local media. you should do something like that. i think it would also be awesome if, somehow, you could have the local media writing articles on you, your club, or one of your players, just interviewing them perhaps, giving you a new, or at least interesting, perspective of the player, the dressing room and the club.

i think there needs to be loads more ridiculous transfer speculation like there is these days. i hate just being linked to players i clicked on a few continues previously. i wanna see myself being linked to random players etc but not being able to say anything about. for example during the transfer window there should be articles every week in the papers like there are currently linking each club to a few players, perhaps saying who they need to get rid of, where they need to strengthen and giving us the ‘expert’ views of the press.

talking to your players during games would be awesome. and be able to say different things pre game, half time and full time would make for a welcome change. especially when playing derby games.

they need to get rid of clubs bidding for a player with more money then they have. thats pointless and ridiculous.

choosing feeder teams is a good idea eg determining the regulations of the partnership, the cost, the duration etc.

kits and sponsers are a nice idea but managers don’t do that. perhaps get a news item when the board are going to change the kit and give you three possibilities of what it will look like and you have to choose your favourite. sponership should pretty much stay as it is but be more in detail as the name of the sponser, how they hope to help the club forward etc and what they will bring to the club blah blah blah.

training could be made better by perhaps getting a message from your assistant each week saying how everyones performing, where people need improving and perhaps showing you a montage video of the moments of the week etc so you can see what your players can really do.

being able to manager an under 21/ under 18’s squad is an awesome idea which i have been campaigning for for ages.

as far as the assistant manager/scout idea is concerned i think its a good idea but very limited. imagine how much they would have to expand the game the incorporate taking other roles of the game in. it is the same as the idea of being a player/manager (something which i always wanted on the game when i was younger!). however i reckon it would be a good add-on pack perhaps because for people with unlimited time on their hands (me) finding hidden talent on this game is brilliant. it would also allow for interaction with the managers on the game and giving reports and taking control of under 18 squads and reserve squads which would cool.

i think you should also be able to train players into having the special movements in the same way you can train players into a new position. and there should be more of the special movements on the game as far as defending, goalkeeping are concerned as well as more negative ones such as short fuse, shows off for the cameras, bottles it on big occasions etc.

the refs should be more interactive as well. and so should the board of a club. and they should bring in grounds staff etc.

also i don’t care about ticket prices, the manager has no real say on this subject in real life though it would be cool to lower prices to league cup games or matches against teams you’re likely to thrash

Maybe, inside the game database, there could be kit templates where you have a choice of kit colours, styles, etc. Also with the option on having new sponsors. These options are available on other manager games such as LMA manager, etc. I feel that although Football Manager is the best manager game around and probably ever will be, it can also be improved in certain aspects. For example, with the PS2 manager games, like LMA as I’ve mentioned, you get to set ticket prices, sign with sponsors, basically go beyond the current managerial responibilities of Football Manager. I agree with the comments that the Media side of the game is one of the best points of the game, so that could be improved in more detail as I’m sure it will be. I liked the comment on giving team talks during the match, I think that will be huge bonus to the game. Going back to media, maybe with big games such as Man Utd against Chelsea, maybe more of a detailed introduction to the game can be introduced, saying the history of the clashes, who’s scored the most goals, who usually scores first, etc. But also correspond this with the current teams. But in general, just a more detailed write-up about key clashes. I would love to see a write up along the lines of this for a clash between Man Utd and Chelsea:

Rooney has been on terrific form this season, netting 17 goals in 23 appearences, can he add to his tally against a strong Chelsea squad with the likes of John Terry, the terrior in defence. With having a strong bond on the international scene, when it comes to club level, it is sheer passion for their clubs that drive them forward, and they both will be out to stop one another.

In overall, I would love to see options found in other managerial games in Football Manager, but keeping the interface, entertainment of the game as itself. Football Manager is clearly making a name for itself, outshining Championship Manager, in my opinion, but if it added options and activities found in other games, it would clearly be untrouchable by other managerial games.

After all this gossip, I would just love to see Football Manager 2008 out. Any news on the release dates?

I think that increased interaction with the board is essential. I think that they should give the manager feedback every couple of months, thoughts on signings you have made, ideas for making more money etc. Im extremely bored with the the 5 options that you have with the board.
When your job is under fire, the chairman should have a meeting with you, he should let you know his concersn etc. and the manager should have the chance to set out parameters for keeping his job. The manager should also be able to remind the board of his previous successes.
I agree that there should be 3d photos of cups and a trophy cabinet of some sort. As well as that, where did the background photos of grounds go?! the game had them in 97/98 and it gave the player the impression that he was actually involved in the game. The background photo of just grass is a little dull it has to be said.
Also what really annoys me is the reality of some players. For example 16 or 17 year old players who you know are going to be a future star are too loyal to their club and dont accept huge money deals. I offered Sergio Aguero £120,000 per week when he was on a £500 per week contract at Atletico and he rejected me. You would sell your mother for a hundred grand a week. It is fairly unrealistic.

16 05 2007

they could also allow the manager to decide ticket prices and decide sponsors. They could allow the manager to scout his own feeder clubs and include some sort of football violence. They could have updates for kits and sponsors and allow the manager to decide how seats the stadium has when expand the stadium (depending on funds)

16 05 2007

I just got CM07 to see what it is like and i must say that the transfers and negotiations on it are very good. if u enquire about a player it doesn’t just say NO it give u a full reason and give you something to work with and players are not silly money like they get on FM and also it is made very easy to buy and SELL players. on fm i try and sell mido and no one wants him cant give him away, but on CM i put him up for sale and i sold him for more than my asking price and wasn’t made so hard for me as it is on fm. cm seems to have come a long way since splitting from SI and i think FM company can have look at few things from there game and adapt them to fit in the FM style of game because if u put CM transfer system in to FM it will boost it loads. i will also say the team talks are alot better as well seems to be a wide range of things to say also quite aggressive as managers get but u can also praise players in private and boost them without upsetting the whole team. All in all FM is a better game but i will say there is a few things they can learn from CM and i am suprised that CM has come this far because to be honest i thought without SI database and help they would fall hehind and fogotten but they are not giving in easyerly so i think Si need to step Fm up a few gears and show us really what they can do to make sure they stay the no.1 managment game because if it keeps up like this i think they will be the ones falling behind in the market and not CM. you guys have play on CM and tell me what you all think. 😉

some good ideas here, some not so good. the stuff about ticket prices etc. isn’t handled by a manager, but it would be cool to see the board making such decisions and then informing you.

most of the best ideas (and some of the worst) have already been put forward, from my own perspective i’d like to be allowed to switch leagues in the game without selecting them from the start:

for example, in an old game i started in the lower leagues and managed to work myself up to a respectable position in the premiership. after a while i fancied a change but could only stay in england. it would be nice to build up my reputation abroad, but unless you select a lot of leagues at the start, which heavily slows down the game, then this is not possible.

you should be able to change countries while the game is in progress.

also:

some elements of realism, on which the game’s initial credibility is based, needs to be improved drastically. i genuinely think if SI read these comments, they could implement most of the ideas without too much trouble.

another possible idea: my missus complained that you can’t manage women’s teams on here. probably not the most appealing feature, but for those who like a challenge and a novelty, you could possibly find something there…

i agree with been able to selected the nation u go to manager as u would in the real world so the solution is u select the country u like to start in and as u play u unlock the other nation

i think that FM2008 should have better youth talent coming through. I’m crrently in 2014 on FM2007 and haven’t had one youth player anywhere on the game, let alone my club, show the potential that rooney, ronaldo, fabregas… etc did at the age of 17/18. I also agree with comments made about kit. it would be good to see the clubs colours in match mode changed every season when they use their second kit.
Anoher good introduction would be to manage more non-league clubs, eg mangotsfield united in the isthmian premier etc…

20 05 2007

I would most like to see set-pieces improved; I’m talking about a mode outside of matches where a manager can load up the ‘match engine’ and create a series of clever set-pieces and study their effects against a standard and generic back-4. Not enough emphasis is placed on the importance of set-pieces at the moment; Liverpool’s clever free-kick against Chelsea and Bolton’s reliance on corners and free-kicks as a means of scoring demonstrates their importance in the modern game. I’d like an option to save created set-pieces in the ‘set-piece mode’ much like you can tactics, and have a button present on the actual match engine that allows you to select one of your saved routines to use within the match. This would make it much more realistic.

Greater control over the set-piece taker would make it more realistic, even if this just comes in a series of drop down options eg.

Free-kick, left-hand side, 5 yards outside of penalty area:

-Shoot at goal
-Drill the ball low across the box
-Chip the ball into the penalty area
-Lay the ball off for X (selected set-piece taker) to strike.

Or, alternatively, you could have a screen similar to the tactics screen appear via a button in which you can position your players around the penalty box as you choose (as draggables rather than the current format) and pinpoint the ball that you’d like to be played via a dragged arrow (that can be arced according to your desired curve) and mark the area that you’d like it to be delivered into. The quality of the ball you choose would then be determined by the set-piece, technique and creativity of your individual set-piece taker.

FM needs to pay much more attention to these, in top football they can be the difference between winning and losing.

i think si can improve loads on this game and if they dont CM will def overtake them.I am an FM fan all the way but been playing CM and the changes since last years are big and much better. the transfers are so much better and give u loads details. Like even if a team turns down your enquiary about a player the players agent still tells u how much wages they want ect.

I also think that we do need more detail and control over set plays. Si have the bases of such a good game here but its only been little changed each year and i think this year they need to make it much bigger changes.

I do also agree with the youth coming through i have not had one single youth player brake into my 1st team i always have to buy player. There are player that have potential to brake in but they get no better at all.

but getting these idea across to Si is the hard part. they must have so many forums like this.

CM runs so much faster than FM as well and to me that makes a big diffrence because when a game runs slow its easy to get bored.

All good ideas, FM 07 is an amazing game but I think 08 could be a lot better. I’d like to see you being able to start off as a player and manage your career all the way through i.e start as player > become coach/ass manager > become manager > end as a chairman.

yh i think your ideas are really good and will enhance the game greatly. but how about all the badges and player photos for the premiership, better youth players coming through for clubs like tottenham & west ham and change of kit after each season???

Another suggestion could be some backgroung music like on the old premier manager 1999

22 05 2007

another thing could be 2 add leagues below conference N/S

22 05 2007
Sage

I dunno if this is gonna be read coz its so far down the page but… i think the game is great and some of the suggestions are great, especiall the editor’s suggestion. However there is one thing people never consider.

I always start a game and play that single game for at least 10 years in FM time. If you pick only the English league when you’re starting the game then in 10 years in FM time England will be the best team in the world and all the generated players that are going to be the best players are english. Using the FM Scout you can see that most generated players are english and no where else in the world had even close to that amount of talent. Teams like Germany have ghost players on their squad… it’s ridiculous.

For it to be realistic they need to develop a method of determining the nationality of the talented players for the future and also countries that are getting better at football and so in 10 years will have better players than they do now.

Also in my FM game although i’m english i’m sick of seeing England win the world cup and the european cup… in real life england have great individuals but not a great team. fluidity and teamplay is vital in international games this should be considered ie. greece winning the european cup. Also in FM if you manage england you can play against Croatia in Croatia and hammer them. This would definately not happen in real life. Player stats shouldnt come into the equation as much in these situations.

23 05 2007
Imtiaz Wookay

One really annoying thing is when a player from your Under-18 squad demands to be in the first team – i mean alot of times this is not really realistic…..also when loaning a player out, there should be more explanations instead of just saying that he is not needed anymore….e.g. he is being loaned out to gain more experience…….also FM prides itself on its realism well then in reality, training should become a bigger part of the game and selections should be alot more influenced by performance in training also….the manager must be able to observe certain training sessions e.g. training matches, sprints, etc. or get a report for each aspect of training.

Also, a players potential must not be static….an average player from the 2nd Division must be able to improve his potential if he moves to Arsenal etc…

It will be gr8 if you could ask the board to purchase certain training aids or match analysis tools…..as i mentioned earlier : “when you take over management of a team (which is the essence of the game), one should be allowed to pick or state your approach upfront e.g. in terms of approach to diet, fitness regimes, use of specialists, requesting the board to buy certain equipment for performance monitoring and enhancement etc. In other words, there should be options to differentiate one managers approach from another….I mean, Wengers management approach is different and more scientific compared to that of Curbishley etc…How do we bring that into the game? —

this different styles of management can then also influence the media interaction and also the Board response….the Board must also have more ‘character’ or club philosophy…..e.g. Real’s “Galatico’s” philosophy VS Arsenal’s ‘Youth’ approach…..etc….

23 05 2007

I think that club badges, kits and players pictures should be included for all major leagues. The youth system should be improved, e.g be able to set up youth academy in other countries, look at chelsea’s youth team the best under 18 from around the world, have scouts that only search from youth players. Should be more involvement with season tickets, sponsors, kits and stadium rebuilds/expansions. Also the MLS should be improved now that Beckham and Angel are on their way. Sort out the german and japanese national teams there are never any real players in them. An england B team, u21 world cups and european cups.

You should be able to complain to 4th official or ref during 2d match if there is a dubious off side for example. Depending on the refs personality they will either be more harsh/softer on your tem but if you appeal too much you are sent to the stands. Also a button for taunting opponent manager. The punishment would be not being able to change your match tactics for a certain time and being fined putting on more pressure from club board.

change inflated prices in the real world u never see a guy rated 2 mill even goin for 6 mil he wud go for his rated price 2 mil even the most 3mil u got 2 change that because even though manu have 20mil it can only buy 1 top player because of these stupid inflated prices because the player will be worth 10 mil and den the team reject offer 20 then they’ll agree

I think that the Japanese league should be included as an option to manage in because there are quite a few good players playing in that league nowadays. Also, the Qatar league could be an option so that you have lots of money and can by players like Lamouchi and Mpenza.

i think that player improvment should be improved( ha that sound good) liek if you have a championship player who wasnt very good at the start of the season but has been in top form and guided your side to the championship then maybe his stats should improve too so bigger clubs want to buy him. almost make the potentail ability of players change if they ahve great form or suming

I think these ideas for ’08 are good but they dont go far enough. i think training needs to be drastically improved i.e. apointing a coach as defensive coach and just letting him train all the defenders with an attacking coach etc. and all being brought together by the assistant manager. that would take all the boring bits out of trainig as constantly tweaking the training indicators is very time consuming. Also improved media but most of all on my game the German and Dutch natioal teams are blanked out so this should be fixed asap partucaly as my last two games were eith AFC ajax and Bayern Munich!!

i think it would be cool, if you could play as the chairman of the club.
how many times as a manager left or been fired and you sat screaming at the chairman to hire a certain manager.
not sure how that would work so you could still play as the manager of team as well, without relegating your brillant choice manager to a useless assisant manager.
i also think it wud be cool, if you got more feedback from your chairman/board.
say the chairman has a favourite player that comes available, then he could set out and buy him without consulting you, we all know it wasnt the manager that bought Michael Owen but the chairman!
would be great when he does that, he then insists you use him and espcieally after a run off a few games without a win, demands to know why his favourite plalayer isnt playing.
would add more tension as to wheather you get offered a new contract as not only will your performance count but your relationship with the chairman/board

4 06 2007
Chris

oh and also, i know theres like time machine patches out there, where sum1 has just left the game to progress through the years so you can play in the future….but really, who wants to play in the future when everyone you know is past it? you may as well play without real players….
but it would be cool, if they released a footy manager where you could pick which year in the past you started from or like some dude said, use your wages that you supposedly get to unlock fantastic old players when they still in their prime, would love to play as Newcastle team, where Shearer, Asprilla, Ginola etc where still there! and be able to buy the likes of Gazza when he was in his prime!

4 06 2007

able to hire some one just to take care of the youth and reserve teams

when scout report comes in on the next oppostion they should point out the expect team and formation and the weak and
strong players how to beat the best defenders. How to stop them playing the type of game they like.

5 06 2007

I think they should bring in something like classic players to choose from so you can have the normal game and the classic game where the best classic players from each football team are playing for that team and you can play. i think that would give it some extra fans.

5 06 2007
gazza

or maybe the oppurtunity to create your own player and see him rise up the ranks in football and become a star. You could also make major decisions for him. he could be classed as your son.

5 06 2007
Liam

on a old ps2 game they had a 3d news centre for transfers and scores.and when you wanted to sign a player you had to meet the chairman and agent.that would be a good idea i think

5 06 2007
Danny

i think the main problem of the game is that their is no real objective. i know winning trophies is what we all aim for but after a few seasons with a team i end up winning everything, every year. then i end up starting the whole thing again. although this is great fun, i think their should be more of a goal to aim for. like maybe to earn a certain amount of money before you can retire, and then maybe become an investor of a lower league club. taking on more of a chairman role in a club could add a massive new objective for the game, such as supplying transfer budgers, investing in new stadiums etc. you could even become manager/chairman of a club like quin did with sunderland. employing managers could also be fun. i no this probably would never happen but it would add a very exiting dimension to the game.

5 06 2007
Dada

I think these people who give comments to the game or how the game cud be improved think it’s easy as it looks but it’s not, because if they would make som big changes e.g. Using commentator, real players playin instead of circles or even building ur own Stadium in 3D or somfin like that. Basically this would take extra effort & extra money which might increases the Game Price. So wat im trynna say is I’m na ready to pay 150 quit for Football manager. But I’m also looking forward to get improvements for football manager 2008.

6 06 2007
gregg

ye 2 be honest its been the same really since 2005 i fink its time for a change

7 06 2007
Jeff Justice

No need for any major changes. But a couple of updates would be nice.

1. Making players easier to sell. I’ve often tried to get rid of fairly good players and offered them out for ridiculously low prices and no-one wants them.

2. I started as MK Dons and am up in the premiership. I still only have a 12,000 capacity stadium which only gets filled against teams like the ‘Big 4’. Its fair enough that MK Dons don’t have a particularly big fan base but If I lived in Milton Keynes and they were in the premiership I would be a fan.

3. Make it a bigger thing if you win a cup. 2D confetti and a trophy on the screen. (I like the idea of a trophy cabinet.)

4. You can communicate with a player before you give a transfer offer so you are competeing more with rival bidders
I.e. You are Arsenal bidding on Frank Ribery, but Barca, Liverpool and Chelsea’s offers have all been excepted.
You offer the standard contract but you can add something like:
-I will be building this team around you
-You will be a vital player in the future of this club

5. I don’t want to see any big changes that would make the game too difficult for someone who just uses default training options and have their assistant manager do everything else. I like to fiddle with bits and pieces of my team but I don’t want it getting too complicated.

Keep the game quick to load! My PC is dying 😦

Great ideas but a more hi tec graphics card wud be needed i want press confrences wen yur hired and interviews after the games

7 06 2007
Aidan

well i dont wont to see big changes like a dont like the idear of the fantasy mode a really like the transfer one thoe its brilliant? and this is an idear like in real life you can get smaller teams than middlesborough and newcastle like west brom and preston and in real life they sometimes can sign quite big players so that would be good if you started uneployed so you can get some good players for your team and a dont think you need value for players on it youve to guess how much for them like say am arsenal and i want eto’o ive to guess and put about 30million for im and make it quite cheap for players cause you take ages to safe up lots of money and when you do its on one player

8 06 2007
Aidan

well i think you should be able to set ticket prices for the matches and you should put all the real team in it instead of pulling them out of reserves all the time it’s annoying sometimes and takes to long and you should get rid of the value of players and youve just to put money in like 30 million for Andrei Shevchenko cause it’s to dear sometimes like 100 million for Frank Lampard and that but youve got to scout them to guess like youve to scout he comes back tells you if hes a player for you and tells you a reasonble price for the player?

8 06 2007
Aidan

you should be able to see your stadium in 3d to see what it looks like cause if you upgrade it you dont know what it looks like anymore and you shouldnt do the fantasy mode the editor is create teams players stadiums wheather competitions awards other people like refs chairmans.

8 06 2007
The Hoff

they should have some kind of manager stats. not like tyhe ones theyve got but stats to do with improving players. like when wenger bought henry he was crap then somehow he turned him amazing. they should put this in the game somehow.

Much more controversy is needed, rows with the chairman, fights, drink driving, diving etc. wud mbe much more fun. also seeing as most ppl play for years the whole footballs cene shud change. like in the 70s ther was hardly any diving, footballers got paid nuthing and now its completely different aswel and the actual football on the pitch is differnet. like in 2010 they shoul introduce goal line technology or replays after major incidents.

also once every 50 years or so something really bad or good should happen at any random time to any team in the game for example a plane crash or lik that player foe when he dided on the pitch. only once or twice tho. and preferably not to ur team. i would be well pissed if my best player died.

certain teams should have their own charecteristics and so should towns like london is a better footballing town then shresbury so better youth player will come and also more planning for opposition teams like tellin ur defender how to deal with drogba

most of the comments have been takin but i think the stadium idea is gd where u can see pictures of the stadium and that u can desigh and expand it urself. The chairman idea seems pointlees as its FOOTBALL MANAGER. The in game team talks neds improving as it is the same teamtalks. The talks in the middle of the game is gd as u can tell players wat to do. Pre match interviews before games should be better the press conferance idea sounds good. BRING BACK COMPLAING AT THE REF.

FEEDER CLUBS SHOULD BE ABLE TO ASK A PARENT CLUB IF THEY WANTED TO HAVE THEM AS A FEEDER CLUB.

EXAMPLE: A PERSON MANAGING CRYSTAL PALACE AND ASKING LYON IF THEY WANTED TO BE OUR PARENT CLUB.

(AND OFCOURSE THEN THEY SHOULD BE MORE “FRIENDLY” TO US , LIKE ASKING FOR A FRIENDLY YEARLY OR SOMETHING!)

I think that there should be a more detailed youth program in the game. The manager should be able to make requests to the board to set up youth centers around the world, so as to attract players from all over the world. International management should be much more detailed, taking into account a country’s political and economic status, and population.
The supporters aspect of the game should also be made much more detailed. Things such as hooliganism do occur, with clubs having to pay hefty fines, playing behind closed doors etc. Each club should have a spokesman that represents the fans, and the fan groups names should be included. Hooliganism has always been the ugly brother of football, and neglecting this aspect is quite unrealistic of Football Manager. For example, in Croatia, if a manager performs badly, leading a club towards relegation, or losing to a significantly weaker club, then that manager would have his car set on fire, or would be mobbed by angry fans outside. If say a club is playing a fierce rival, then the club should be able to invest in security. Clubs that do not invest in security may see incidences during the game, with even the possibility of fans storming the pitch or throwing flares, and the game having to be called off. Also another thing, I see it much too often, it is very unlikely that say for example a well known and supported club from Serbia would sign players from Croatia, Bosnia, Turkey etc, same as how a Croatian club is unlikely to do so also, as racism does exist in these countries, and the top clubs would lose much support from the fans if they were to do so. This seems as a negative aspect of football, but it does exist, and adding all these things into the game would create a much more interesting and involved experience to football managing. The club should also be able to have the opportunity to attract a larger fan base, and this could be done by going on tours to nations, setting up autograph days, merchandise prizes, chances to meet the players etc.
Creating youth centers across the world should also have an effect on the scouting knowledge of that nation. Say for example I was to build a youth center in Chisinau, Moldova, then my club should be much more aware of upcoming Moldovan football players, the state of Moldovan football, and the general state of the nation of Moldova, all things which may affect my club.

Clubs should also be able to choose kits, sponsors and although the manager does not have much input in regards to these things, the board could ask for the opinion of the manager.

12 06 2007
Arthu O'D

you should be able to start off managing the reserves or u-18’s of a team and then build ur way up gradually……maybe get a managers job elsewhere etc……..It should also be possible to be appointed U-21 or U-18 manager of an international team like Stuart Pearce With England managing the U-21’s

some of the ideas are brillent specialy the one about stadium and i like the sound of showing a player round the stadium and training ground but ones which i haven’t seen are:
. the press should be able to interview your players after the game i.e they talk about a vital goal your striker scored to win you the cup and a small video clip of a player getting givin the MOTM award
.when your’ve won a cup theres a samll video clip of you makin the walk up the stairs at wembley and leftin the cup and also a samll clip of the press running onto the pitch after the cup match to interview your players like they do in real life
well thats some of the things i think would make the game good let me now what you all think

14 06 2007

they should put like the sims or summit into it the nite before a game and then u can make a player do something like getting him into bed at a certain time at a hotel.that would be fun

how about playing 4,3,3 with the ball but without it the team will set up as 4,5,1, using the draged arrows is not as effective.

1. have better youth training. when you get into a few seasons and your youth players start to become regens, actually make good ones, not all single digit stat players, or make them develope stats quicker if there a “standout”, especially at a club with top facilities. every year theres a special player and he developes to nothing, yet other clubs make 5 good regens a year in the u18s.

2. make buyin players more realistic, a player like bale worth 1.5m wouldnt have his club demanding 10m for him in the first season whilst his still an 18 year old at a poor club. or lampard being tracked by a club wouldnt cost 61m, but rather 30m.

3. realistic player demands. reserves getting angry at not starting. ie tim krul wants to start ahead of given and harper in the first season. players should only complain when they have reason to be start.. which means they have to haev started a fair bit before or there good. also outrageous wage demands. a player earning 1.5k a week wants 30k a week after one season.

4. ability to manage lower grades. ie since your a new manager, the chances are you wont get the chelsea job with murinho there, so perhaps taking over the u18s or 21s, and then like the assitant manager, put forth an application if the managers job is under threat. also make your wages count for something, whats the point in gettin 40k a week when you cant spend it.

5. make work pemits better. good youth players like lebohang mokoena or nicolas milan cant get into the epl in the first 3-4 seasons. if they have the feeder clubs, why not let you sign players and send them to a feeder teams in other countries to get eu nationality and still be at your club. the process to do it at the moment doesnt work because some players can be signed but then dont get a work permit so they cant play anywhere or they get rejected for a work permit all together.

6. make senior players more influential. the tutor system doesnt do anyhting to improve players stats. experienced players when tutoring, depending on what u pick, should mould the mentality of younger players. ie, a player with high influence, determination work rate , etc who tutors a player with low stats here, improves them if you pick they can learn from this person approach to the game. if you pick they can learn alot, improve the physical stats such as heading marking and tackling if there learning from a defender.

7. make stats more accurate. so many times players with high finishing and heading and pace and acceleration such as shevchenko dont score yet a person with 13 heading and finishing and avg speed like ben sahar or scott sinclair score frequently. to help with this have a players overal stats ( the ones they show now) and then a current form stat option that you can toggle like the training improvement stat. this means if a player has been scoring, there finishing in the current stats form goes to 18 from 14, or if poor, go from 14 to 10. this also means that as well as training, consistent form can also improve players stats over time. ie sahars finshing remains at 14 despite scoring 20 goals per year in the last 3 seasons, with this consitency it should raise to 16 or 17. im sick of players with crap stats out shining players with good ones. make a player reflect there stats or have a current form stat to show which players are in form, not just there avg rating as thats not always accurate (ie a keeper has 7.23 rating despite 2 clean sheets and 14 goals from 9 games compared to a 6.45 for a keeper with 6 clean sheets and 3 goals from 9 games)

thats all i have for now, but theres alot more i have in terms of improving the stats, player ability, development, transfers and work placement

15 06 2007
leon

also, why not make another game… like Football Career or Football Lifestyle that runs alongside the Football manager series. in the alternate title, you look at all the financial and position aspects.. ie being a scout, assitant manager, chairman or coach, as well as managing merchandise, stadiums etc. or make this title an expansion pack. that way you can be whatever you want in the world of football.
just like if you get a coach and make him an assitant manager, why cant you change your role in football. i would love to get away from all the stress and presure of manager and just be a coach for a change and work more of player development rather than the whole deal. or if you want to watch over everything, including the manager, why not be chairman. you can over rule any of his decisions, but he does most of the work. its like being on holiday, but your still in control at all times.

and another thought. improve scouting. ive noticed that the scouts in this one cme back with more common names to sign like “blah recommends sahin” what appealed so much in 05 and 06 was that scouts would find obscure players that fit what you needed, not just a young well known player. eg and n’ forest i was suggested to get simon mensing for the backline and junior agogo for attack to bolster the squad, whilst at liverpool i was suggested a player that was not from any league as a future potential. i signed him and in the u18s he had 30+ goals in 20 games. there is not so many unknown or youth stealing players in 07. there is still the manual search through real madrid and baracalona c rankings, but scouts never bring back a potential signing from a team such as BAT sports or something.

15 06 2007

how about signing someone to handle the mercidise side and for the rest of the things abit like total club manager.

And the expansion pack would be an amazing addition to the game and it will make sports interactive money

16 06 2007
Lee

Many comments I agree with but we can’t start introducing aspects of the game that a MANAGER will not deal with, like chaning the sponsors or selecting a different kit for e.g – although approcahing the board and interacting with them in more detail would be an improvement.

I agree that we see the same questions put to you before a game regardless of your next opponent, you can only say so many times “xxxx are a team i really expect us to beat”. It should be able to read the next fixture and ask you a more suitable question.

Better news flash or transfer talk will spice up the game, and if you notice on the World Transfers list, there are some big money moves that take place that you wont be aware off unless physically you look on this screen.

And with regards to team talks, again there are not enough options. I think the team talk should be able to reflect the type of game you are about to play or have just played and not just give you the same 5 options to choose from.

The only real whinge i have is that the game play itself is sooo slow, it probably takes 12 hours to complete 1 season! Why cant it be sped up like we used to see in FM03/FM04 for e.g ??

FOOTBALL MANAGER 2008 IS COMIN OUT ON THE 19TH OF OCTOBER

17 06 2007
Jules

For me the one thing that is seriously lacking in this game is the online content!
I would like to be able to go into the interactive game and say I want to enter a team into a league. My team name would then be entered into a waiting list. Once 20 people had done so, we would have our league, playing against other players around the world. This would be best if limited to players from similar time zones to maximise the likelihood of both players being there for the game. Game times would be set and if you are unable to make the time, then the game goes ahead automatically based on the selections that you make for your team at any time before the game kick off. the league would run throughout the season, all the normal rules would apply for transfers, management etc… and all the teams would have available to them transfer able players and staff.

17 06 2007

i think there should be able to buy a club eg man utd, or chelsea etc and be able to be more than a manager eg scout, club owner etc

please do these things and it will be a better game!

u shud be able 2 buy a club and instead of hiring a manager u cud manage them and choose ur i.e budgets and wages.. instead of designing new stadiums, u cud buy from a club in debt or old ones from a club who have just built one. this would save money for smaller clubs and u could move in straight away.

what i would also like to see, his like small quick vid clips for say when you sign a world class player, when you get hired as manager, when you win an important match etc
just to try and make it seem more realistic
and have like an Ultimate Soccer manger lay out, instead of just boring screens, which makes ya feel like ya managing your entire team from your computer had home instead of actually going to the stadium and training ground. have it so u have to click on your office and then click on a newspaper to read the latest rumours or click on the tv to get the latest match results, or your computer for any e-mails from sponsers, your chairman, asking you to go to his office etc and having to click on your stadium to play your matches (would also like it if you could click on the stands to improve them as well)

i know this may sound a bit RPG, but I always get annoyed that when my players train it always seems to be the wrong stats that improve (i.e. defenders shooting goes up quickly but tackling does not). maybe training could accumulate points, which you could then spend on whichever stats you liked. this could also work with your management stats (media handling etc).

also, under player stats, players could have an ‘experience rating’ (so young players have no experience but playing them for 5 mins in a premier league match, etc helps it improve) and then a team with lots of experience performs better than one with little experience/team chemistry

21 06 2007

better interaction at trasfer period. so many times a team signs a decent player for next to nothing (eg fred was picked up by west ham for 4m) and by the time you know its too late.
being able to set your scouts to monitor the transfer market and note key players, deals above a certain value, etc so that u can be competative in the market by gettin some potential players that have been found by other clubs, not just your scouts. and also not just go for the same players over and over. this feature would let you find some great next gen players as well (eg chelsea signed next gen allen wood for 3m and scored 33 goals in 20 matches and his value went upto 59m when he was bought by barcalona)

21 06 2007
Terry Austin

Some great ideas there, I have one:

During the pre/half and full time team talks, I’d like them split it into 3 areas.
First, you give your overall team talk as usua, 2nd you have the option to talk to individuals as usual, but 3…..You should be able to talk to the defence, midfield, or attack as a unit.
Example. The team are generally playing well, but your defence is a little shaky….kick them up the backside, and while your at it, tell your strikers to put the ball in the f***ing net.

22 06 2007

how about being able to improve your stadium like on fifa manager 07

i would like transfer issues improved. so you can negotiate with a club and say something like “we will pay you another £5 million if we win the champions league with the player” etc..also i would like the manager to have a bigger say in finances and the ability to pick your own feeder team should be included rather than the board just giving you options…

be able to rule break or suming, so you can get point duductions, player fights, i.e belamy and his golf club lol more updates, rtaher than just 2 that fix like 10 bugs, ahve maybe 8 or 9, that would end up fixing nearly all bugs and glitches. and when a player is brougth for 4 million, his ratign seams to go up to 8 million, i was thinkign does buyign a player for 100 mil, wud that amek him worth 200? i dont think the transfer market is real enough. amaek goign on tour wroth whiel, liek go to asia and then shirt sales in that continent increase due to popualrity, so in finaces screen you can see your sales iin continets and then a drop down button so you can see in countries. that woudl be kool, what do you think?

hey some interesting points..i agree with more manager interactions and wider degree of comments. also there should be better scouting. when u get to your 10th season and stuff its difficult to go and find the next big thing b4 some other team buys him and then their value goes up dramatically..its pretty annoying havin to try and individually scout every 16 or 17yr old from brazil and argentina to try and get the next big thing on a cheap deal..when u send the scouts to search for under 18s in a foriegn country they do a pretty lousy job..also i hate it when u give a player a leave of absence or they come back from a long injury and they are not fit or have that orange injured sign u try to build up match fitness and next thing u kno they are concerned bout their first team place and the temperamental ones are even more angry…its like we are tryna improve thier fitness so they can play better and here they are complaining..

I would like to see a couple of additions to FM2008.
Firstly, in 2007, if you used the Data editor, you will notice that teams have a ‘hardcore’ rating to represent the hooligan faction of those teams yet all of the teams ratings are set to zero. The boys at FM should make it so that rating is variable depending on which team the player is playing and if two teams with a relatively high hardcore rating meet up who are rivals (West Ham vs. Millwall?!) news reports regarding crowd trouble could occur and need to be answered by the manager.
Secondly, it should be possible to not only set up links with clubs in other countries but to also set up football academies (with the Chairmans permission). This would allow us (the manager) to nurture our prospective world beating Malaysian/Iranian/American/Bolivian/New Zealander superstar without the need to sign them to the club and not use them because they arent ready for first team football.

Very good ideas, I would definitively like to see them in the game! I am one of those people who don’t believe that the 3D engine will be the future to FM. When this will come, I believe that FM will lose all its “imagination based” engine, not to talk about the bugs wich would certainly occur in that engine.

So how could we improve FM? Well by your suggestions, yes…but I also believe that the tactical engine could have plenty of more options. In my opinion it is still poor, and you play in the same tactical system game after game without changing anything according to your opposition. Your ideas are very good and I think SI should have knolodge of them, and I believe that the next step is to discuss the in match progress to be made

add another aspect to training that improves mental attributes. this can be done by having a menu box with selected activities such as charity, media, or bonding sessions that the team goes through once a week. depending on the selected option, different mental stats improve. (ie chairty work improves team work, determination and concetration. bonding sessions improve team work, work rate, positiong and overall team chemistry whilst media improves influence, decisions and creativy etc.) by having options that cover each mental attribute, you can develop a teams personality. (ie a team that generally does bonding work can be a well gelled side, media based can be ambitious and charity can be profesional) this will also bring players current mentalities into it also, a player who is frustrated might not devlop mental stats with charity work, but with bonding sessions. fueding players would devlop stats better in media work rather than bonding session on the other hand. this means that activities need to be rotated or picked based upon the majority of players mentality. by having a monthly cycle (ie like training, pick a cycle or system of activites that are repeated in weekly order until you decide to edit it) this prevents the users from having to edit it every week. it will also add another stat on the player profile which i think is important, player mentality. this can be, ambitious, leader, mellow, negative, aggressice, team player, etc.

from this you can then have a system that works similar to the tutoring system, by which when you interact with a player, there is a drop down menu where you can choose individual activities a player can do that spans a monthly period. (ie charity, tv apperances, media conference, guest apperances, celebrity stints, u18/affiliated team mentoring) from these optioons, each helps develope a mental statistic further, along with the team activities. the difference is that these activities can be declined by the player, similar to the tutoring system. this individual aspect introduces the ability to mould a squad around a player, or devlop a player into a leadership role (ie choosing media, team mentoring and charity develops stats affilitated with a leader, such as fan favouritism, influence, decisions, etc.) along with being able to develop players attributes, it can also change the way fans see players, and ultimatley make fans player of the year more a fnas choice rather than a performance choice (ie Tevez gets 7.60 for the season but declines numerous activities which dissapoint the fans wont get fans player of the year over Ashton who gets 7.30 but takes on the majoirty of his activity roles.)

so you have improved mental stats training, ability to bond teams and improve chemistry, and better player/manager and fan interaction.
you also have the baility to mould a future star on and off the field.
im currently with juventus in the 2018-2019 season and i have a keeper “Larry Marcelo Santiago” who is 22 but has amazing stats and is my first choice keeper, as well as spains with 15 caps. however his mental stats, especially influence are low. being able to mould these stats to make him a future leader would be perfect considering he is an integral part of the squad at the age of 22. players always have “they believe santiago is vital to the teams future” but his mental stats wont improve heavily enough over the course of his career to make him a future leader.
being able to send him on media and charity work can help raise influence, composure, decisions etc so that by the tme he is 26-28 he has matured into the leader of the squad, rather than having to bring in a player with those stats already aquired to lead the team. i preffer moulding a prospect or youth player than having to buy one to do that task.

I would love to play in England to promote club from tier-24 to World Club Championships winner, that would be 26 seasons… I don’t understand how people can play with teams like Chelsea or Milan for more than couple of seasons.

Yes, I do understand that getting 24 levels (is that something like 500 leagues) to game would be insane, but it would add fun level a lot.

more player comparrisons, like joao pintino, could be next ronaldininho, more of them would be cool.

also player-style-description. so bellamy could be a trouble maker, and when roy keane was around it would be hardman, so in games he fouls more often and doesnt dive as often as say drogba would.

One thing Football Manager needs to do to improve is to spend money on getting rights to Premier League kits and official information. Most people that play Football Manager tend to be Premier League clubs and it would improve the game if it had the badges of the clubs etc…

You should be able to make it so you can actually get good young players…it dont matter how,…. There should be team fines …… and the kits shoulds change every 2 years or so…. and you should be able to sell whack players quicker….. and you should be able to have realistic values…… and star ratings and potential star rating like on ootp……. and it should be quicker so you dont have to play the game solid for a month to get out of the pre season….. andsome fake sponsors that can appear on your top….. and easier work permits.

25 06 2007

Transfers

Im in the fourth season and every player that is even half decent was only available for 30 – 50 million pounds!! This is annoying, i had 130 mil but could only sign 2 world class players, i think the transfer system could be looked at a bit more. For example if a player wants to leave he should be able to force his way out of the club ( or your club ) like the way gallas has or buy out of his contract. Also player swap deals rarely work, no matter how good the player is you are letting go. Sponsors is a great idea and the negotiations with them would be great fun. You should definately be able to improve your youth players as you need homegrown talent for europe, and often buying a good youngster (15-16) doesnt count as home grown. Great game though im a serious addict…..

How about 3D players on a pitch. Then I could see fouls (when is real and fake then I could decide to apeal or don’t apeal if somebody have a red card). Also it’s cool to se players tricks, moves on a pitch.

when is it coming out ???

whats this football manager live thing about

but about what they can do to improve it i would like to see them change how the training is set out and works cause i dont really like to deal with that stuff but i think it needs a change. also the amount of money people cost is stuiped i mean i had to pay like 30 million for a defender which was worth 8 million. one thing i do like is the match days with the little people running around but sometimes when i dont have much time i would ruther just have like a quick match and its done in a few seconds. and finnaly when you want to sigh a youngester you get your scouts to watch him and there like he is not ready for first team football well i know thanks but is he going to become the next ronaldo or someone who is going to flop. i dont want them to be that direct but just be considerate to there age

27 06 2007

I think that the choice of kits before a game is a really good idea. The FA could inform you and ask which kit you want to play in. Also the ability to change the colour and type after every season or even during a season.
Also i think;
press conferences before and after every match
being able to praise and slate referees
naming a squad before every match
telling players why they havn’t been picked
Better media coverage (more options)

28 06 2007
swaroop

have read all the ideas.. some r good…

but 2 things need big improvements are media talk and say for ex if i \m jumpin ship frm 1 club to an other club i shld tel the other club tht i ll move only if u can buy these players…

for ex wen im in valencia and arsenal offer me a contract i shld be able to tel arsenal i ll manage ur side only if u buy villa and joaquin come along with me …there needs to be death of past players, violence, players goin on strike to move clubs etc..

28 06 2007
Frank Lampard

i agree with swaroop that would be a good idea.
There Deffo Needs to be more coverage over media.i like the idea of naming ur team before a game.
i hope they include some of these ideas.

28 06 2007

I think that you should be able to approach players illeagaly, having the option to see if the player would be intrested in coming to your club or make him a nice offer and see if he requests a transfer.

Nick Singh has a point..changing shirts after the season would be massive

i think it would be a good idea to be able to change kits and be able to expand the stadiums to your percific liking however dont you guys believe if we had so many more options in 08 than we have in 07 the game would go on forever and it would take you twice as long to finish a season.

i believe a way to improve FM is to change the ‘non-EU’ rule. like for example you signed palacio, riquelme, anderson and marcelo you would not be able to register any more non-european players which means you have just spent 30mil on a player you cannot play – this would make the game less realistic but definately more enjoyable!!

Dude, these are some really good ideas, but I think that it would also be great if you could be able to negotiate with a player without his clubs knowlage, like in real life, or if you could include some stuff like cars or houses, or even some sponsore contracts when signing a contract with a player you are buying. You all know that as a manager of a club you get money it would be great if you could spend it on something, or if you could chose your personality…

1 07 2007

And it would be great if you could become a member of a board of a club or a country. I really do not know why there are no sponsores in this game…

What about the option of signing two players for a combined fee?? Happens a fair bit in real life, especially with youth players…

2 07 2007
Jig

Also, when players are substitued off, why do they always go and stand in the gap in between the two benches? Why not put them back on the bench where they would usually go and maybe dim the colour to indicate they have been substituted? If they are sent off and storm off (i.e. do not return to sit with the team) this could be the subject of some press interest. And when a player has been sent off and we see the 2d replay, it is impossible to see whether the offence is bad or not – how do they think it helps us decide whether to appeal against the ban or not? Not sure how this could be resolved though

2 07 2007
wayne hamilton

i think if u are trying to buy a player and if he dose not want to come if u have a player who is in the same international team or is a friend he u should be able to ask him to have a word and try to talk him into coming. example ronaldo talking try deco to get him to come to united

2 07 2007
SCP#3

YES WAYNE HAMILTON OPINION IS QUITE NICE , BUT I THINK IT WOULD BE MORE REALISTIC IF ONLY THAT PLAYER HAD THE OTHER AS FAVOURITE PERSONNEL.

EXAMPLE: C.RONALDO SHOULD BE ABLE TO TALK TO HIM , BUT ONLY IF HE HAD DECO AS FAVOURITE PERSONNEL.

###

2 07 2007
SCP#3

WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO SIGN A PLAYER BUT ONLY TO CHOOSE WHEN TO JOIN THE TEAM! (FOR YOUNG PLAYERS MOSTLY…)

EXAMPLE:: IN CASE WE FIND A GOOD YOUNG PLAYER OF 16 YEARS OLD , GIVE HIM A CONTRACT AND CHOOSE ONLY TO COME WHEN HE REACHES 18YRS, SO HE COULD STAY ON THAT TEAM FOR ANOTHER 2 YEARS BUT AS OUR TEAM PLAYER!

3 07 2007
Aaron Brown

I think the change of kits each season is a great idea, itl make the game that little bit more realistic. Also i think there should also be sponsorship deals so then when yur deal runs owt you have to negotiate another one with the same or a diffferent company and same with kit manufacturers, this would make the game a bit more realstic and would be great if it could be added………!

3 07 2007

Hi fellow gamers. ‘Improved Transfer Window’ ‘improved media interaction’ and ‘In game team talks’ are very well thought out. Personally i would want to see more agents involved in deals, for exmaple ideally we would have an agent from Manchester United and a seperate agent from Chelsea brokering the transfer fee between the two clubs over the transfer of Wes Brown and you would have Wes Brown’s agent haggling over the players wages and signing on fee and using the media as leverage. Possibly Chaimen or Chief Executives could have an active role in transfer dealings also, such as the Lyon chairman, Roman Abramovich with the signing of Shevchenko, Peter Kenyon with his shiny (big) bald headed hardball negotiation.

To a certain extent the haggling over the players transfer fee has happened in the past year with the eventual transfer of Owen Hargreaves from Bayern Munich to Manchester Unitted. So there is no reason for this and or agents not to be considered.

As well as those hugely entertaining additions i would like to see more realistic transfer targets. If you are Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, or Liverpool you CAN buy players from Barcelona such as Samuel Eto’o in real life so why can’t you on FM? It doesn’t add up. Owen Hargreaves doesn’t even want to join Man Utd at the start of a new season. Err, i think you’ll find he does and has! And most shockingly of all Thierry Henry leaving Arsenal for Barcelona. He obviously did want to leave Arsenal after all! There are far too many ‘ordinary’ transfers in this game, we want to see BIG transfers!

And these transfers should be negotiated throughout the season not just the selling club demand a price you the buying club accept and the player joins n the next window. How boring! It doesn’t happen in real life so why should we have to put up with it in a fantasy game that should entertain us more?!

My final point on transfers would be dodgey agents. Let’s be honest, they exist. The BBC of all politically correct people told us this, so why deny it SIGames? Why? Just accept it and double your sales to an all time record high!

On the point of ‘improved media interaction’ i would like to see more options, we all would. AI managers can use the media to disrupt a player but if we try to do it the player usually takes it with a pinch of salt and dislikes us.

Another aspect that must be improved in my opinion is a players current ability (CA) and potential ability (PA) number such as CA (168) PA (180). The potential ability stays the same the whole length of the game! Players like David Bentlys PA increase in real life so why cant they on the game? Why are we so restricted? We shouldn’t be. We are virtual trainers after all.

Finally on my point on ‘big transfers’ why can’t we see more David beckhams move to LA Galaxy on a five year £125m ‘free’ contract? How exciting will that be? One word to AC Milan’s Ronaldo moving to New York Red Bull’s for £3m on a 6 year £150m contract, whoa!

P.s One vitally important point i forgot to mention teams should have more money to spend and top class players such as Eto’o’s asking price should be a mile lower! Look at Thierry Henry for example, he moved for £16.1m but on the game Arsenal demand at least £55m in most cases. It’s completely unreal and players contracts, age, REAL happiness and who’s interested must play a part in the transfer fee.

Thank you for reading.

Gooner375

I have listened to all the comments for a while and thought id add my opinion.
First of all i love the idea of the kits changing and being asked which kit you want to play in for certain games. I also like the idea of naming squads before games, press conferences and tapping up players.
There needs to be a lot beeter media coverage. It really needs a complete makeover. I agree that the 2d pitch also needs to be better. Player instuctions is also a really good idea. In fact there are a lot of good ideas.

But what people must realise is that only a few of these things can happen.

For me they should look at the kits and player instructions as well as maybe fine tune the media aspect.
A few other things i think they could add are;
Talking to other managers in private
Better club afflications(choosing your own)
Approching board over signings
more interaction with assistant managers
Able to watch others games (not just “view game”. Actually tell clubs your coming to watch the game for a purpose)

The one thing that i think they should do is to change aspects as years go by. To keep the same rules for competitiions for 20 years, and stadiums is stupid. Also things like rule changes and other factors.

I think when making transfers, you should be able to ask the board for more transfer money on just a single occasion.

For example if you want to sign a player who will cost £9 million but you only have £8 million, then you should be able to ask the board from the biddng screen to make an exception for that player, and top up hte transfer budget by £1 million (obviously the board will take in to account the actual player – to see if it’s worth it!)

There have been so many times where the board has got money, but haven’t realeased any extra, just because I can’t specify how much I want. Sometimes I just want £2 – £3 million from a bank balance of £30 mill. Yet I won’t get it!!!

I’ve got a few ideas but im not sure they are that good.

1. On derby days Provide a bigger build up, For example If it was an old firm derby have the fans opinions on the match, have questions from the media about recent results ect.

2. When you win a cup there should really be a bigger deal made about it for example instead of the usual “You have won the European champions cup” put interviews with you and the players. Because one season I joined Bayern and i went on a bad run but the next season i won the German league, German cup and the Champions league and the the fans still were not happy with me.

3. I’m not sure if this happens already but every few years have a bid from a new owner for the club and they must speak to you before they take control. This means that if you have a struggling club without money then you can get some money, though im not saying every time you are struggling financially that this should happen but it is an idea.

4. Ex players of the club or of your old club from a certain country should brief the club about players or teams from their area and you could pay them for their services. For example, for Rangers Lorenzo Amoruso could be a spy for Rangers if they were after an Italian player or playing a team from Italy.

5. Finally have local newspapers rumours in your news about your league.

Can the SI make the game more detail such as the malaysian league and perhaps the brunei league can also be playable. And also the sponsors of the english premier league, make it available as the lower league has a sponsor on the shirts. Why the big club doesn’t have any sponsors at all. Hope the SI can solve this problem on the new FM 2008 or coming years..

7 07 2007

can we arrange our own formation as we can place the player anywhere we like and can the SI put the images of the player such as C.Ronaldo, Fabregas , Shevchenko and ETC.. Make it more graphical and attractive.

All good ideas

I would like 2 see ….

real crowd chants

more views on match day , camera angles etc

real kits

more choices on comments not the same 3 or 4 every time

choice of stadium expansion just like on LMA

stuff like playas coming out of nightclubs drunk n stuff

so it shows playas lifting cup etc and recieving medals

have more interviews , more intense where the media ask u several questions and not just one , especially on big matches , eg champions league games

more realistic transfer prices

more realistic league standings at the end of the year nd match results , eg in my first season with blackburn i came second in the prem , …..like tht would happen !!

BASICALLY MORE REALISTIC , U’VE (THE CREATORS) HAVE GOT AGES TO CREATE THE GAME , JUST DO EVERYTHING TO MAKE IT MORE REALSTIC !!

7 07 2007
Aaron

most wanted have !!! next to them

I think that you should be able to:
1. design your own kits every season!!!

2.design your own stadium expansions (something similar to LMA manager but better)

3.start off as an assistant manager at a club of your choice to create a bond with the players and when the current manager moves, gets sacked or retires you could ask to take charge like you declare your interest in a job in FM 2007 and if this happens you could ask other managers if you could be their assistant at their club!!!

4.spend your wage money on cars, houses etc to make it more realistic.

5.build training schools in other countries to improve your scouting and youth systems!!!

6.have a button that you can click on to bring up a news channel like sky sports news so that you can look at who other managers on the game are buying and view highlights of past matches/goals’s of the month and player profiles also like on sky sports news (this would make the news page even better than it is)!!!

7.have a button that links to a page that shows your players training on a pitch like on match day (you could also customize you training schedules from here)

8.have the real german and dutch international teams rather that unknown players.

9.better analysis of match stats like on championship manager 07 to show how well single players are playing and show what areas of the pitch they are covering, where there shot are aiming etc!!!

10.you should be able to watch your teams academy games and decide whether future youth players are good enough for your youth team and choose which position you think they could play bes in when they are older!!!

10.teams should accept more realistic transfer prices.

11.agents from players from other teams should approach your club more often even if they arent on your shortlist!!!

12.dont just make rumours up about players on your shortlist but also players that you have previously looked at without putting them on your shortlist!!!

13.make pre match interviews better and vary them more

to the people who say about design your own kits every season!!! the manager dose not do that so why bring it into football manager. jose or sir alex have better things to worry about than the kits that’s a stupid idea. and they don’t design the stadiums that’s not possible if u want a game that’s real these ideas are stupid. keep it real like things that is to do with the team sir alex is not the 1 who picks the kit so why bring it into FM. and the manager dose not design the stadium that’s stupid two.

1. being able to play with ten men when a player is injured during the match. (you could in the old games).
2. picking a specific captain.
3. able to call a press conference at any time.
4. better scouting.
5. Better training feedback.

8 07 2007

well i think the makers of FM 08 should take a long hard look at other games and take things from other games , like the building of stadiums.or kit sponsors.
we dont want the same old thing every year , we want something different , dont we ??

i would also like to see press conferences where u can see the manager and players if you have just signed them , and longer press conferences for whatever the situation is , eg . at the start of the season the press conference should be very long….i would also like to see the correct kits , trophies , league names , cup names etc and prem badges , as its annoying going to editor every time.

does anyone know of any websites tht download kits , badges etc which is quick and easy ?? if u do please say

thanks

Nice ideas. The interaction between manager and media needs to be vastly improved. Press conferences would be wicked, not just after signing players. Stop this bastard game from giving a corrupt decision in every other match. And I am sick and tired of having a disciplined team go through the whole season, barely picking up any cards, then in a final I get two players sent off for the first time all year and lose the match. Really pisses me (and a lot of other players) off. Oh, and the Toon should always have more money than anyone else 🙂

Why do people want such rubbish things. Things like make your own stadiums and design kits are just stupid. The things that the people at football manager need to concentrate more on are making the game more realistic. On pro evo does it really matter if your playing the world cup or the international cup?
IT MAKES NO DIFFRENCE!!!
As for designing stadiums that idea is just stupid. Do peopke really think this is more important than;
-beter media coverage
-MUCH better training and scouting
-changing kits for certain games/after the season.
I think that gooner 375 has got it spot on
Not everythinng can be changed or should be changed. Things like agents, going to the games and better match analisis, would be great, but you’ve got to think of the essientials.

I agree with all of those mate. I’d love to have the network play improved too. A friend and I were really looking forward to 2007 coming out so we could play on the internet, and not know who each other was going to sign and everything (just like in real life) but at the end of the day it was boring!! I don’t know how they could improve it like but if they could it would be great. Oh and make Liverpool a little bit easier to manage!!!! I hate going them because they stress me out big time. I keep getting 0-0 even though I have about 20 shots a match!!!!!

Hi there,

Im a proper addict of this game.I play it for 4 hours/day for sure.
First of all I would like to congratulate Mr. Editor for these suggestions, they’re quite fun.
I have some other suggestions about FM: about the sponsor,I think it will be more fun to change the sponsor on the gear after the contarct is expired, design a shirt after each season if u want.
The assistant manager can have more work to do,for example organises friendly not only in the beginning of the season(italy),cos when a player is injured i put him int the B team and manually organise friendly matches to be fit again and put him back into the A team.I think he can suggest some tactics to you and can give a suggestion about your players. For example Zidane is not playing well, better to give a chance to Pellizoli(player in a youth squad that has a bright future),or in a game he can tell you to replace a player or the tactic and the reason why,etc…..
I have more but this is getting to long and u get bored reading
i will suggest more for sur but 🙂
Thanks guys, keep FM the best game ever 😉
Nello

Another suggestion is that i never searched for a referee’s profile,i think its better if you take the referee’s profile off, better training schedules.
The preseason is very imp. so this can be told by ur ass manager and give you a suugestion to begin the preseason : jogging, running without the ball, some gym etc…. stamina and strenght.
maybe some more supporters opinions, like which player the management would like to sign (dream player) etc….

You know what would be the best game ever, there can be two options if you want to be a manager or a player, but its like GTA and you run around doing all photo shoots and interviews and have decisions like doing cocaine and all that and going out to party’s so living the life of a player in GTA style and then on matchday and training you have to make your way to the bus to get to the stadium or if you miss it you have to drive there, and then for the actual game its like pro evo or fifa style, and training you would have to do the tasks, and if you chose manage then would be the same but obviously different for training and matchday and bringing in players from other teams and meeting with them and negotiating deals, and have under the table deals and that. It would be pretty hard to do this option but to have all the stadiums for the top league in the main countries like England Spain Italy and Germany or something and have it so you can fly to them and they have the whole place in the game with all the stadiums, it would have to be a massive game for that with the countries and the stadiums and the cities, but if it was real we could all dream.

would be better if there were more different responses from media to different situations (plus photoshoots, etc), and the choice to be any of staff roles, and build up to manager. being able to choose sponsors each year would be good. have more interaction with fans (autograph sessions, merchandise shops, etc).
and cesc, i think there is a game where you can be a player or manager, do what you want…pretty good, it has no limits…real life.

Just started managing england in a game. The international management needs lots of work! You should be able to interact with players from your national team like you can with your club team. Plus why cant you give comments to other international mangers before a game.
Also i really wanted to praise chelsea (was having a sentimental moment) after they destroyed me in a carling cup (sorry league cup) tie. Which i won 5-4 on penalties. Van persie scored in the 95th minue to send it into extra-time after they had nearly 25 shots in the game to my 9. But i didn’t have any options. The game could still improve so much! That in a way is what’s good about it.

i think the idea of picking what sponsers you want when the club deal runs out is a good idea. Like what would get you the most money. They should change around some of the young up coming players aswell so i dont always lisson to how amazing fredy adu turns into. I also think it would be cool not just to upgrade stadiums but build news ones as well depending how succesful your club is and if the board want to give you the money to do so. In match graphics could be better but they are good now. Player interaction could be more interesting as well. Training could be better as well.

I think that it’s stupid how much some players cost! In the real world £30 million would buy you anyone, messi or rooney for example but on my game i am arsenal and i had to pay £83 million for Rooney!! They have to make the valuations more realistic!

An amazing idea what i would love to see is managers player of the year….where you get to pick your player of the year and could create displeasure in the squad if you choose someone not worthy. Also each manager in the league gets to select a player to win the overall managers player of the year for that division but not allowed to select someone from your squad. Interaction with referees would be great too as sir alex and jose do on a regular basis, get some refs more leniant to your club or some refs really biast! Premiership players pictures…is this something to do with copyrights or image rights would be better for the game and the players in real life. The MLS needs to be sorted out too as the salary restrictions and international player limits have now been lifted in the USA but on FM07 is not lifted, tried to find it in the editor but unsuccessful FM08 needs to rid of that stupid rule!!!!

14 07 2007
Jänkä

team talks needs an improvement, there should be more options to choose from what to say.. and a wider selection of answers for the media’s questions.. I’d also like to see clips from the matches, like if striker misses a goal opportunity, he drops on his knees and stuff like that. Players values could be a bit more close to the truth, like the value of Robinho is unreasonable, for examble in the year 2010 at the game, no club has 110 million euros to spend on one single player!!

I think fm08 should be more realistic by having the real badges and strips in like the SPL and the Premiership.

Great ideas for more transfer rumours and more interaction with players. I think the game needs more interaction with players and I agree that you always get the same questions asked before a game and always have to give the same answer. It would also be great if before a game you could tell a particlar player to watch out for another player for example: if chelsea were playing man utd you could tell john terry to really watch out for rooney and mark him well and all. It would be great if all the above were really considered

Not so much on the transfer or media side but more on behind the scenes of the club you are managing. For example, when expanding a football stadium, we can choose which stand we want to improve, and maybe show a picture of the current staidum and what it will look after the construction. Also when improving training facilities and youth set up we should have a say on what the money is spent on for example, Astroturfs, gyms and so on…..

Also more club badges and player faces.

16 07 2007

some decent ideas and some not so good ones in my opinion… the reason Si’s games have been so succesful is because they havent gone the same route as fifa and lma….. its football manager… managers dont have a say in sponsorship, building etc.. wouldnt be realistic
As Mr.editor says… Fm is pretty much complete… just a few touches here and there… such as enhanced commentry and sound, sort the ass managers problems out too.. they are pretty useless at the moment.
Id like to see more in the way of players themselves expressing an interest to coming to a club.
Oh and regards to something someone else said about agents sending you video clips of their players…. wasnt this in the last game or in the demo or something… havent seen anything of it in 07 though… was a good feature i reckon.

Calling a press conferance is a great idea…I only hope the editors view these ideas some great ones but again there are some bad ones that the mangers in real life dnt get control off so would be daft to have them in the game. Also at the press conferance if your tired of a player not turning up for training or playing sh*t, you cud say he aint ever gonna play for the club again and the fans either back you or go agaisnt you! something like the beckham saga at real madrid b4 the la move. The agents approaching you was great fun but left out of the game..Why?

ye deffo adi, the idea about the interaction with refs wud be extremley fun..managers players of the yr could work but what if each manager choose a differnet player…or they could have a selection from say 20 players who have played the best that month. i’d like to see some improvements in transfer window.. especially in terms of work permit. i have a bid accepted for Alexandre Pato however had been denied the transfer because of unsuccessful work permit. the saddest part is, two or three days later, man utd had successfully bought the player and he played against my team and got a hat-trick!
can u see how devastating it is?
plus, is it logical when for the first season the transfer fund Portsmouth have got is 20million pounds, i dont think they are that rich in real life :p
besides that, i hope in coming FM 2008, the hype of managing club winning cup can be improved. it annoys me to see after all the hard work only
” arsenal wins european champions league” on my screen.
and maybe we can persuade retired players to continue playing for their country.. and maybe when we drop a player from national squad, let the player make some comments in the media to show their disappointment.. or the fans dont agree with our decision and cause some chaos in the city.. suicidal bombing maybe? :p

i like to play as english clubs, the media idea is great definitly would bring a vibe to the game. but i feel the main thing is the incusionof full face, kit and club logo packs brought into the game, as downloading home made packs isnt to good and they are usually quite bad, i think that SI need to strike deals with all the leagues to get the rights to use the faces, logos and kits of all major leagues and clubs, if anything this would be a plus for the likes of nike, adidas, and even the clubs as its all extra advertisment.

building up stadiums is not what real managers do yea its fun but not realistic sir alex dose not sit up at night planing the extension to old trafford. use need to stop comparing fm to other manager games the games were u build up your stadium and set ticket prices and even see the 3d match with players running about they get repetative in the game play goals always come from the same situations were in fm i have never seen a goal exactly like the other one.

22 07 2007

dunno if this has been mentioned cos i didn’t read all the posts, but one thing that really annoys me about fm07 is when you criticise a decision in a match . if you say the decision was bad and you are right the ref never gets punished by the FA. it just says ‘the FA stayed silent on so and so’s comment..etc’ .but if you are wrong the FA always warns you and eventually fines you and gives you a ban. SI really need to change this so that refs get punished cos it annoys me especially when the decision is to allow an offside goal which gives your oppontents a draw or something like that.

I think all this are great ideas and i think that they should try and include interviews after and before big matches where someone asks you a question and then you get a choice of 5 comments, then another person asks you a different question and you should also have these types of interviews when you sign players-talking to the press. Also i think that people like Alan Shearer, Graeme Souness, Ally McCoist, Alan Hansan, John Motson and Chris Kamara should be on there – you could employ the likes of Alan Shearer as your assistant manager or Graeme Souness and then people like Alan Hansan and John Motson you could ask for advice, reccomend players and maybe even offer a job to. Come on FM08, please be good!! And one last thing they should include things like what FIFA do like deciding whether to bother signing autographs at trainig sessions or deciding whether players who have been invited to a charity thing go and take part, just everyday things that arn’t all to do with footy – things that you encounter in everyday life

the obvious thing to improve is media and player interaction. theres not enough options. team talks also could be better.

im not bothered so much about training or tactics.

A little weird but id kinda like to build my way throught a club! e.g. be employed as youth coach, reserve team manager, assistant manager, or scout. I think it would be interesting but prob only fun for like 5 mins, because ther aint nutin better than havin an offer accecpted for a player.

Also i would like SIgames to put in the ability to put players where u want rather than in set positions, e.g. 2 up front but rather than playin in like adjacent positions id like to put them further apart or behind 1 another without having them become an AMF, wot do people think

p.s sorry if these already metioned

Joe

great ideas man, suggest them to SI NOW

27 07 2007
Jon

I think that club anthems should be sung throughout the game, also a closer link to fans. A good idea which i think has been mentioned is that if you are trying to signh a player instead of just offering him a contract you should be able to persuade him such as telling him where the club is going and which plans you have. I like the ideas which ask to persuade retired players back to lower clubs or into management !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

27 07 2007
Jon

I think Football manager should link into skysports news and if that isnt possible we as managers should be able to call press conferences for selling or buying players !!!!!!!!!!!

27 07 2007
stephen

It needs the highlight mode to show the highlghts in 3D to make it feel more realistic. Also they need to sort out transfer budgets why can clubs bid 10 million for one player but when you go to manage the same club you get a transfer budget of 250 thousand.

27 07 2007
Jon

I think that if you are doing a good job at your current club you should be rewarded with a new bumper contract but also recieve offers from other clubs, and if you decline the offers your stats go up, it seems as though you have 2 do to much 4 your stats as a manager to improve !

27 07 2007
Adi

When negotiatiing contracts you should be able to offer such things as company cars and a house as part of the deal. Also calling press conferances for signing players etc but also whenever you want to discuss something with your fans, board, a player, or a slagging match with a rival manager a whole range of different things. You should be able to actually appoint a club captain and sometimes in the 07 game you can ask him to call a players meeting if things aint going well, in 08 you should be able to do more with the captain of your club, ie sort a unhappy player out or help settle a new player in to the club. Also more drama bulid ups to the final of cup competitions, and huge derby games, eg im burnley and playing blackburn in the fa cup semi final and all it says is blackburn favorates for semi final meeting…If that was real life it would make back page of most papers and dominate local news. As it would for liverpool everton, man utd man city, and rangers celtic for example.

FOOTBALL MANAGER™ 2008 ANNOUNCED WITH A HOST OF ALL NEW FEATURES

The most realistic representation of the challenging world of football is back and set to hit PC and Macintosh before Christmas 2007

LONDON (July 27th, 2007) – SEGA Europe Ltd. today announced that Football Manager™ 2008 for PC and Apple Macintosh will be in stores before Christmas 2007. Football Manager™ 2008 is the next iteration of the prize-winning Football Manager™ series developed by world respected studio Sports Interactive. The latest version of Football Manager will be fully updated for the new season and will allow players to select their favourite club or international team and guide them to glorious success by putting them through Cup matches, Leagues, European Championships and even major international tournaments, with over 5,000 playable teams from over 50 countries.

Fan feedback on the previous version of Football Manager™ was, as always, taken very seriously by the Sports Interactive team, resulting in over a hundred new features, including a brand new advisory system to help new players through the different aspects of the game. This makes Football Manager™ 2008 the most accessible Football Manager™ yet, without losing any depth for the more experienced player.

“With Football Manager™ 2008 we’re once again raising the bar in the sports management genre.” commented Miles Jacobson, Studio Director of Sports Interactive. “With dozens of new small features and larger things like a complete revamp of international management and the new match flow system, we’re really looking forward to seeing the reaction from people when they get to play it on release.”

With all-new features, improved gameplay and a depth only seen from Sports Interactive, Football Manager 2008 offers a management simulation that is second to none. To whet the appetite of every Football fan, SEGA and Sports Interactive have unveiled the key new features available in Football Manager™ 2008.

New features for Football Manager 2008 PC/Apple Macintosh

Match Flow – The largest change to match-day in a Sports Interactive game since the introduction of the 2d match engine. Match flow brings more atmosphere to match-days with match previews, team talks, opposition player instructions, the match itself, half time and post match. These now seamlessly follow on from one another, with no more pausing to make tactical changes, and a mini-radar pitch whilst making those tactical changes to keep you in touch with what’s going on in the match

International Management – The international management gameplay has been completely revamped for Football Manager™ 2008, including, but not limited to, media improvements, international retirements, player interaction, international scouting, improved pool selection, captain selection and a separation of international and club morale for players.

Easier to Use – A much cleaner skin, a brand new advisor system to help players through various areas of the game. A new notes and notebook system, better button positioning for simpler navigation and an updated tutorial and manual. Also, coach reports make taking over a new team easier, and the new calendar system lists all important dates throughout the season. These all help to make Football Manager™ 2008 the easiest Sports Interactive game to use yet.

Confidence – Players can now easily tell what the board and supporters think about their performance in the game through the new confidence section. This gives players feedback not just on their current progress in competitions, but also their financial management and signings.

Transfer Centre – A new way of managing all current transfer and loan bids for a players club, both incoming and outgoing, making it easier to compare bids and reject or accept them.

Match Engine Improvements – A greatly improved match engine, once again utilising the footballing brain of former Republic of Ireland international player Ray Houghton as well as other tools used by real-life managers to make the most accurate simulation of football in a computer game. The ability to change the pitch dimensions at the start of the season to suit players styles of play better has also been added.

Awards re-write – An overhaul of the awards system inside the game which is not only more accurate now, but also includes new awards such as the European golden boot, and a “best eleven”, which shows the all-time (in game) best eleven for all teams and nations.

Finances revamp – To reflect the changes in modern day football, Sports Interactive have updated the finance area of Football Manager™ 2008 to better reflect the ever changing football world, with more information available to the manager too, including, but not limited to, corporate match day income, season ticket news, investment funds, improved sponsorships, collective win bonuses, and the ability to move around funds from the wage budget and transfer budget (and vice versa) at any point to help you in your quest for the ideal squad.

Fan days – The board can now arrange fan days to boost ailing attendances, or for matches that are likely to attract a low crowd, with a long term affect to attendances if all goes well.

Expanded media – More media and feedback than ever before, plus more detail in existing media, and a new competition news section to find out what major things are going on in all league competitions

Regenerated player photo’s – All in game generated players now have pictures using FaceGen technology to give each player more personality, and the ability for the players to be seen to grow up in front of your eyes as the game is going on.

Speedyfastier – Saving and loading is now significantly faster, with network gaming faster and smoother to play, as well as tactical changes and match reports being quicker than ever before.

Football Manager 2008 for PC (XP & Vista) and Apple Macintosh (OS10.3.9 and above) is set for release before Christmas 2007. ds most people on this site dont want to be able to change kits whats the point in that its a stupid idea

28 07 2007
DS

Hammy.
Almost everyone wants kits to be changed. It’s called wanting a realistic game!
Plus someone has already told us the new features, we dont need you wasting more space!

28 07 2007
hammy

its a stupid waste of time what manager picks the kits and if u read through the blog u will see people dont want it why would they its pointless

29 07 2007
chowie

how about making reserve players not always demanding to play first team football that often. it bugs me when i have a full team that i reckon is pretty strong ..and the team i pick is going awesome and then someone from the reserves are having a cry about no first team action. Once in a while, fair enough.. but all the time..irritates me!

I also agree with the player interaction stuff.. like the coach talking to the captains… asking for advice… more talk to the board.. or even asking the players how they feel? and the assisstant manager helping more is a good option too.. Pat Rice for me does jack all!… umm

well you see there are many improvements that can be made..however i highly doubt half of them will be considered!

but its always good to have hope!

mamu (11:29:15) :

Nick Singh has a point..changing shirts after the season would be massive.

So Hammy not everyone thinks it’s a bad idea. In fact if YOU go through the forum you’ll find quite a few people like the idea.

By the way i like your idea about telling subs to warm up.

29 07 2007
Adi

Should show the manager in the dugouts aswell as subs, when you start the game up you can choose wether your a manager that sits in the dugout most of the time, stands about watching the game, paces around or just stands at the end of the technical area…would be fun!

When you tell a player to man mark another you should be able to select mark when oppostion have the ball, mark when you have the ball, or at all times…or there should be an option like stick to the player like glue when he goes for a piss at half time you stand right next to him…when i play man utd no matter who i am or who i get to do the job if anyone rooney and ronaldo just take the piss big style! would be nice to have the option to hurt them or definatly mark them outta the game.

everyone wants the kits changed. It’s a brilliant idea and makes the game more realistic. Maybe you want to play in the same colours for 20 years but most of us do not!

Did you see Arenal play at the Emirates cup? Against Inter milan they were awesome!!! Kieron Gibbs looks a star! I predict they’ll be second behind United. Also it’s a bit rich you saying that Nick Singh and DS have pointless ideas when you go off and say
“tell players to warm up”
How stupid is that. The kits idea is really good. Its the best idea on here!!
I mean what other ideas to you have?

well telling players 2 warm up is something a manager dose u fool he dose not sort the kits out. if that’s what u want why don’t u email fm and ask them to bring out kit manager!

31 07 2007
Adi

Changing the kits has nothing to do with the manager…maybe the kits could be automatically changed after a couple of seasons using the clubs colours randomizing kits..or maybe the fans could vote for the best kit from a small selection every couple of years.

31 07 2007
mccamb

more background details on your own manager.
If you were a player before being a manager, were did you play.
Also the ability to select coaching attributes for your manager. Managers coach the team as well some times.

More media. Player interactions during the match would be good.
If your team rarely scores you should get a reputation for being boring. and maybe this could effect who you sign.

31 07 2007
Ashley

i think that the all players should grow in height and put on weight in the holiday for them and they should let u view the trophys u have won

31 07 2007
carl

i like most of the ideas here like the ingame instructions to players that should def be added, more press/player interaction, but some of the ideas such as deciding on kits, making your own stadium expansions, sponsors, 3d game engine (not really needed it would slow the game down i reckon cos of the amount of memory it would require plus it may make the game impossible to play on a laptop that doesn’t cost 2 grand), while they may be fun to do, most peeps here claim they’d make the game more realistic, how is this more realistic? do real managers have any say on these issues, no they dont the board do.

31 07 2007
danny

i think you should be able to become an assistant manager if you wanted to and i think you should be able to have your own little personal thing like on fifa manager they have an area where you save your wage up and start off with renting a flat and you have the opportunity to buy different cars and houses and you can design your house and buy stuff 2 go in it.

31 07 2007
Adi

If u wanna design a house n buy stuff for it, then buy ‘the sims’ this is a football management game for christs sake!

31 07 2007
Nick Singh

People seem to have miss understood what i said. What i want to see is the ability to decide what kit you wear for certain games.
For Instance
The FA have informed you that you can decide what to wear for the facup trip to blackburn tommorow. You casn choose the red kit as worn in the recent league game or the yellow kit. The players have been asked and said it’s your decision.
I’m not, and never said design your own kits. That is pointless! What i said was that after the season has finished you should get a choice of a few colours, because it’s boring having the same colours for 20 years.

31 07 2007
Ashley

ok wat a bout creating urself a background of ur career like i work as a assiant at man u or something like that and if u play football.

31 07 2007
Joe

Personally i disagree with the thing were you can talk to your players during any of the halfs.! just stick to talking to them beginning, at half time and the end of the game, but just give more options.! I strongly agree with the sponcer idea! Not sure about buying other clubs:S.! But on another manager game i have been on! withthe money you ern you could run your social life as wel as the club you are manager! O and i think there should be alot more transfer funds for the likes of Manchester United! Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona, milan and all the top europeon clubs.! Keep the pitch as it is, dnt edit that, with the little cicles running about i mean, thats qual!!!! O, and at the start of the game, when you select which country you want to select to manage in, i think say at the end of the season, say if you want to manage in spain but you havnt already selected it at the beginning of your game! i think you should be able to add that country..!! So yerr, may i just add that i think the game is the best manager game ever invented! but i spend way to much time on it 😛

31 07 2007
Joe

And i think you should be able to select a spacific club to affiliate aswel.! Say i was man u, and i want my home to town to be an affiliated club, i could ask them myself.! and we should be able to edit our kit every year.!

Choosing your own afflicated clubs is so obvious i cant believe they havnt done it. Downloaded the cm07 demo and although it’s easier to buy players the game is not close to football manager. I thought you could shout instructions from touchline. Something that was always on the old games is where you offer a contract to a player and if they reject it, you just click “re-negotiate.” But on both FM07 and CM07 you have to start all over again. Very annoying!!

1 08 2007

So how much are you willing to pay for all these suggestions? The countless extra hours of game production, the extra cost of paying developers wages, its all going to go onto the price of the game, so would you all be willing to pay the price hike in game costs for the benefit of the extra time and info going into say the Fantasy leagues from by gone days? the extra coding requried for ingame comments? If it aint broke dont fix it!

theres always a couple of things when you’ve played the game for a while u wanna change/add, i just won the champs league wit atletico lost torres on a free to UTD he scored 2 in final against me finished 2-2 he scored his pen 2, maybe on his personal it should say wat he thinks about it imagine if it happened really. But the games colossal n still gets better every year

2 08 2007
peterpan

i think that wen abother club approaches you about managing them you should be able to say ill only come to your club if you sign these players from my old club.
mourinho goes to barce? he says he wants terry and robben to go with him.

3 08 2007
Mevin Govindan

I’ve taken Arsenal Fc and i want to buy a Messi from Barcelona. I make a bid of £100 million for him and i get to offer him a contract. He gets around 150,000 per month at Barcelona. I offer him aroung £2.2 Million per month plus a substantiate bonus and a huge signin fee and yet he refuses to come to Arsenal. How come? In real, a player who get a such a contract will not be refusing such a contract. So i think something must be do to make this contract negotiation more realistic.

3 08 2007
Gram

Hi all,

I think testtamonials games should be a feature of the new game and also a revamp of the international set up, also with match day you should be able to shout at your players during the game, i have gone through 5 girlfriends but football manager will always remain.
Keep up the good work cant wait to play fm 2008

3 08 2007
hammy

Mevin Govindan its because u are arsenal and they are scum. messi just knows it.

3 08 2007
Weary

I think more realistic transfer fees. You end up spending 7 million for someone who should only really cost 2 million. When I get a budget of 20 million i would spend 10-15 million on a good player and i would like to spend the rest on squad players but cant boost my squad because it costs me 5 million for an average player… very frustating when your looking to improve. I would also lyk to design the new strips for my team. Just something basic. Its a bit boring whe in agame you see the same strip on match overview over and over again. You could change it every 2 years or so. Another improvement could be a page that keeps track of your own career earnings and have targets for the season nd if you win the league you could get a 1million bonus.

4 08 2007
Adi

testamonial games a wicked idea! I often do a pre-season cup/league and call it ‘name’ testimonial competeion….I also think you should be able to organise an annual competition ie the emirates cup/amsterdam tournement…or my made up one…The Trafford Trophy!!!! lol and why when your touring a country like china with mufc do most teams reject to play you….these clubs thrive of playing the likes of man utd.

5 08 2007
peter

i think that there should be some transfers that are investigated like the tevez transfer.

5 08 2007

u shud eat and drink different food at half time and as the manager u can choose wether or not to feed the players and what to feed them or not feed them. can u imagine such a crazy game i would play for hours just to torture players by not feeding them hahahahaha

5 08 2007
noel

how about instead of getting continually frustrated at your bid for a player being rejected just recommend a player to the chairman and let him do the business? being updated by the chairman every other day to see how negotiations are progressing.

6 08 2007
FM King

YH i think noel’s idea is perfect as r many others… display should be worked on.. i think background music should be included, similar 2 that of premier manager 99, and a better range of skins.
Managers and players of ‘al’ clubs should show better loyalty in some cases and the chairman shouldnt be so quick to sack managers; im about 7 years in and only me and mourinho are still at our original clubs since the start (in the premiership)
Media companies should call for whole interviews with you. this would be a good unique selling point for the game

i think it would be great if you could start as the youth team coach to try and find the next rooney, lennon or owen. you could even get instructions from your club manager about the team and certain inviduals. this could also include having a say in youth contract and sales. in time after winning the youth leagues and cups take the step up either to assistant or even manager at a club. what an idea. i thought so.

TRAINING…. make it easier! At the moment im in like my 5th season and training is just something that ive left for the game to sort out!! making training easier to handle will give the game another little edge!!!….

…my own view 😀

9 08 2007
Phil

Lewis
I agree trainnig needs a complete makeover. I too leave the game to sort it out. I think that you should be able to be a player manager as well. You should have an option to meet with a player to talk about possible transfers and what you think he can bring to the team. Also maybe have an option to invite players to your office and talk to them about what you want to see from them and possible transfers.

10 08 2007
rob

cud i just point out to people that r suggesting all this 3d stuff that fm is a 2d turn based game. if they were 2 add 3d to it it wud mean completely revamping wat has been hugely successful for 15 odd yrs for something that due to SI’s inexperience at 3d gaming would b ful of flaws and bugs, and also y dus evry1 want more teamtalk commenting, i was happy wit 2005 wit no teamtalk, didnt mind it in 2006, but teamtalk in 2007 drives me round t twist. However i do think that being an assistant manager or owner shud b part of t game but in a diffrent section like fantasy league is in lma. t thing i wud most like to see is the option to choose the size of ur stadium as well as more realistic transfer budgets eg in 2007 barca had 5m and everton had 1.5m.

14 08 2007
Phil

I’d like to be able to explain certain decisions like why i’ve sold players or not picking a player. Also i’d like to see little personal things happen such as henry when he’s fouled in the area he doesn’t take the penalty.

16 08 2007
Vercetti

I think ye should just all go out and find “Ultimate Soccer Manager 1998”, In that you can choose your sponsors, bribe teams, bet on results, be a coach as opposed to been a manager, set the price for season tickets, jerseys, food and drink and get a loan. Also the training is very easy to sort. You can also improve any part of your stadium, knock any other buildings(bars, restaurants etc) and re build in better spots around the stadium. Not quite the job of a manager but seems to be some of the stuff ye’re looking for.

16 08 2007
Jonathan J.

Fifa Manager should definently consider letting you manage a team like the Ivory Coast…. It doesn’t let you do that because they are not involved in Euro 2008!

You should also be able to manage England U21’s.

18 08 2007
Adi

USM 1998 was fun but doesnt come anywhere nr football manager or even championship manager 97 for that matter!!! Isnt even in the same league!!!

18 08 2007

What is it with people and stupid ideas.
Telling subs to warm up .
changing food prices.
Next people will want to decide whether players wear short or long sleeves. Or even who travels in the coach and who doesn’t. All we want is a game to manage a football team. Not RUN a football team.

GROW UP!!!!

20 08 2007

yh some ideas r pretty good i reckon they should do the real fixtures if they can like in real life

20 08 2007

it would be good if sometimes the clubs accepted lower bids for players e.g.a plyer worth 10m should be able to be brought for about 14m or 15m, istead of paying stupid amounts like 25m or 30m!!!!

you should be able to get sell players you dont want by selling them straight away. however on fm07 nobody was interested in my players i did not want so i could not sell them, these extra players took a huge chunk out of my wage budget even though i did not want them!!!

it is true that chosing kits is a bit stupid because what manager choses kits?? but i think there should be a kit change at the end of each season, just not decided by yourself. it is also a silly idea to be able to become chairman because that will defeat da object of the game.. sports interactive also need 2 bring back the option of different skins on the game because half way through the game, u do need a change of scenery.

Why can’t other clubs offer players to you but you can to them. I’m not going to get into the kit debate but even though the manager doesn’t decide it it does seem a good idea.

Being able 2 be offered the job of Assistant Manager of an international team or U19/U21 Manager and something Ive always wanted to see is wen u decide your time is up at a club depending on how long you been at the club and how well you have done ( I.E. Peterborough up in the Championship or Prem) they can ask you to become a board member after you have gone to another club where you then receive more news about that club over any other

What about being the groundsman. I would like the option of choosing the grass seed and fertilizer for the pitch.

I was wondering if you ever thought of changing the page layout of your
blog? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say.
But maybe you could a little more in the way of content
so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of
text for only having 1 or two images. Maybe you could space it out
better?
